Default New Tire Queestions

Aloha my friends, it will soon be time to replace the tires on my ride, and I'm curious to see what everyone's opinion is on different brands.

I have a set of GFG's 19x10 & 20x13's. My C6 is putting out about 450whp now, but in a matter of weeks will be putting down about 600 whp (procharger). I do not track my car at all, strictly street, and the average temp in Hawaii is about 80. I NEVER run the car in the rain if that makes a difference.

Suggestions/opinions?

Keith

The number 1 rule is to avoid the OEM Goodyear EMT (runflat) tires. They are the worst tire made for your C6.
I would recommend the Michelin PS2 or the Nitto Invo.
Check out their web sites to see if they have your sizes available. Also, remember to retain close to the factory front/rear tire height stagger or your active handling will not function correctly.

I think you are going to be challenged with traction running 20's out back as well. Invo's or Pirelli's are the only options until the PS2's are out.

Honest I'm not trying to be sarcastic, but as you say above IF you Never Track your car, (yes I know its nice to have 600 hp) why would you want that much HP for just street driving... (I'm betting you "Don't) street race... sure it will give you a nice "Kick in the Pants" when you get on it...

But what are the "Advantages" of having 600hp over 450hp I have app 390 RWHP on a dyno.. and have run it at the track its run 12.11 @ 115 mph..and when I have my run flats on the car it will just spin if I get on it hard, & I'm only making 2/3 of the HP you plan on making..

If you put on a good set of Drag Tires I bet you would go DEEP into the 11's if not the 10 second range...

But as you said you NEVER track it.. with ANY street tire you will just spin like driving on a wet road especially if your around 650 HP!

Don't misunderstand me... if you (or any person) wants 650 or 1000 HP and can afford it I say "Go For It" I'm just thinking you will never get to "FEEL" the full potential of what that car will be capable of!

Either way good luck, & let us know how it runs..

All things considered, on these forums anyways, 550-600 rwhp is pretty conservative. For me, it's a matter of pure ego, nothing else. I love my car, and I love the feel of being shot out of a cannon, which is why I choose to boost her up a bit.

I have now right at 450 rwhp, and I can get traction just fine. Another 100+ hp isn't going to be a problem. It's not like I'm going for 900 or 1k. Now that would be NUTS!

So anyway, back to the tires.....

They only go up to a 315 in a 20' diameter. I think he has 13" wide wheels. There is also a Nitto DR in 20" diameter, but they are also too narrow.

if you drive the car alot,Do Not Get BFG KDW ! the road noise from these tires makes the runflats sound silent.

I agree there are better tires for various applications and to suit certain individual preferences but the OEM Goodyear runflat tire serves its purpose quite well. Runflat technology provides a capability and peace of mind non-runflat tires can't.

I understand the advantages and disadvantages of both runflats and non-runflats. I just don't feel the OEM runflat tire deserve the "worst tire" label...it does what is does well.

... guess you don't really need run flats right? what's the most you'll be 5 miles from home at any time?

Still on the OEM's but shopping myself.

Actually the Supercars are a very sticky tire and have proven to be very competitive in the "Street Tire" class in Solo 2.
