Default Hot Engine! CEL

I was driving the car @60 MPH when I saw this message on the DIC "Hot Engine - Turn Off Condition" then the check engine light pops.
The A\C was already off and the car wasn't hot at all! 65 C!
I parked and double checked the radiator water.. FULL. then I disconnected the battery for 5 minutes and re-connect everything again. started the car.. everything is OK, drove it around for like half an hour then parked it and went home.
Two hours later I drove the Vette to the supermarket everything looks fine and suddenly the check engine light appears again with the message above!
Any one know how to fix it? any one had something similar? I'm kinda super freaked out now!! the battery is disconnected currently I was hoping to connect it back tomorrow.

Did you get a tune or add a different t-stat? Sometimes a lower temp t-stat runs the engine too cold. If you have the stock t-stat perhaps a sensor issue or the t-stat is stuck open. Just a guess

If you changed the thermostat, there could be air in the system.

No. No new tune and no new T-Stat.
Car was fine and smooth yesterday, I don't know what's the issue!

My 07 did the same , but with the error message the water temp gauge would die - Dropped to zero with no reading , but I knew the car wasnt running hot . Happened a few times , and when I went to bring it in , it never happened again . Its just a bad sensor somewhere .

Was your temperature gauge working ? What temp was it showing ? On my car , the gauge on the dash would read nothing ( zero ) and the HUD would display "XXX" . Try to check the connection for the gauge , if I recall its above the #1 cylinder .

Like I said , my car "fixed" itself , so I never took it further than checking conections .

If you're nervous driving it like that , leave the DIC on oil temp .... as long as the oil temp is OK , 95% you are not overheating , so no worries ( although it wont let you turn on the A/C compressor )

Good luck
