2006 Z06 Found these tonight on the magnetic oil plug. (This is part2, part 1 last time was a broken lash cap). I had a rear seal replaced which was bad for a while, could the spring be a part of that - or what. Any ideas?
Those springs look like garter springs that came off a rear seal. The springs aren't the problem, I assume the other parts are metallic (since they came off your magnetic drain plug). Those parts would bother me.
AH HAH. What is the actual darn name of that little-spring-holder-oner-of-the-rubber-retainer thingy?
I installed the Patriot "Gold Xtreme" .660 Lift Dual Spring Kit. My cam only goes to .639/.619. Maybe that is somewhere in the valve train, I don't recall it being in the kit, but that is so small.
....B. you managed to snap and break off a valve stem seal from the valve seat itself unless you have serious serious valvetrain issues
so in other words i'm guessing whoever installed the dual spring kit just re-used the stock valve seats, causing the coil bind, hence the picture linked (it shows what happens when the inner diameter of the spring rides on a ridge on the stock valve spring seat, as opposed to just sitting on the seat like its supposed to on the right)

That helps. I think the mechanic installed the new seats because it is too easy to do. I did not watch the install in detail. I haven't had anything else show up in many miles.
Here's my guess: I had a broken lash cap. I have only one broken tiny valve seal spring. I ran the car for a while with that valve ticking. Maybe it strained the seal to dislodge the spring?
I have the old seals and maybe an old spring will work (if similar size) if the new seal is still ok.
I'll check that valve first. I guess my oil consumption should have increased.
