Default What valvetrain components did MTI Houston use?

I've got to replace some parts in my valvetrain due to a timing chain failure. Can anyone from the now closed MTI Houston tell me what part numbers would have been used on my Stage 2E ported heads with a G1 cam on a LS2 (specifically the valves and springs)? Anyone else with a MTI Houston setup can also chime in here if they know.

Here is the basic description given on the old site:
Stage 2E Cylinder Heads
Complete hand porting of intake, and exhaust runners for excellent flow volume & air speed with major bowl work performed. Ferrea 2.02" stainless one piece intake valves, and 1.56" exhaust valves are used in the factory valve seats. High performance dual valve springs coupled with our custom lightweight titanium retainers and specially machined spring cups offer the most stable, and reliable valvetrain. These heads can be milled .030" to increase the compression ratio by 1/2 of a point. This is an excellent street cylinder head with flow numbers approaching 300 CFM on the intake runner and 210+ on the exhaust side. Each set of cylinder heads will come with their own individual flow sheet. If you're looking for a great cylinder head at a great price, look no further. Available for LS2, LS1, LS6, LQ9 and all 5.3L truck castings. See the flow sheet attached to this page for flow data.
Ferrea valves can be found here, but other than the sizes I don't know which I need:
http://www.ferrea.com/general-result...tegory_id=6040

The springs are listed as duals and MTI sold Manly Dual springs individually, so I'm guessing they are the dual springs listed here:
http://www.manleyperformance.com/nic...lvetrain.shtml\

Conversely this post by a former MTI employee states that Ferrea dual springs were used with the 2E with the C5 Z06:

There are many quality parts available other than what MTI Houston used. Quality duals range from Comp 921's, to PAC 1521's(my new favorite), to quality duals from Ferrea, PRC, and Patriot Performance.

I'm not as concerned with the type of springs as I am the type and spec of the valves. Since MTI did custom porting on the heads I want to replace the valves with the same product. I've not removed the valves yet, do they generally have a model number printed somewhere on them?

Unfortunately I would not know as I have stock valves....which don't have any kind of distinguishable markings on them. I will say ferrea makes one hell of a valve though.

Hi gath47, I have almost the same set up (stage 1 head) from MTI houston. Including the cam and springs. A month ago I had LG install a slightly larger cam which included new Comp springs, retainers. We were trying to rigure what kind of springs were in the set up. The people at LG did not know. There is no markings on the duel springs or the retainers. One thing is, they are not Comps. My best guess is Manely or Patriot. I saw boxs of these springs at MTI. By the way, new cam makes same power but is much more streetable.

See the thread in the link below. I don't know them, but apparently they bought MTI's equipment, and it implies they might have customer files. I think they may have also hired some MTI employees. Worth a shot.

It had a lot to do with the cam that was being put in the car and if the customer wanted to save money. We would use Ferrea, Comp 921's and 918's, or PRC duals.

I was able to remove the valves last night and found that the intakes were labeled at the top of the stem and are Ferrea F6231's.

The exhaust valves are not labeled and are 1.56" to the best of my crude measurements (as expected) and may be stock.

The MTI blurb could be read to indicate the only the intake was a Ferrea valve. Anyone know where to purchase stock valves or have the specs for the stock exhaust valve?

The springs are not Manley based on appearance. They look identical to Ferrea dual springs as the coil (damper?) between the outer and inner springs is flat. Since I have other evidence that MTI used Ferrea springs I have to assume that's what they are. With less than 10k miles on these I will probably reuse them in the rebuild.

The stock LS2 exhaust valve is 1.55 according to: http://www.gmperformanceparts.com/En...6261&engCat=ls

Whatever was used was not stock (at 1.56) and doesn't seem to be a Ferrea 6000 series product. Ferrea does not make any .313 diameter valve in 1.56 (only 1.55 and 1.57) so it's not from them.

If it's not stock and it's not Ferrea, then what is it? The reason why I want to know for sure is because my tune is likely un-unlockable and I don't want to significantly change the setup as to require a retune. If I can determine the valves used I want to stick with the same ones.

The original post from MTI regarding the 2E states that 1.55" valves are used:
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/genera...nder-head.html

Someone else with this question was also redirected to use 1.55 instead of 1.56 from Ferrea:
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/genera...my-valves.html

I've got some PMs out to various ex-MTI people to try to confirm this...

Or you can listen to the ex-MTI person posting in your thread.......All of the 2E and 2R heads got Ferrea valves......... 2E's getting 1.55 on the exhaust. As far as an exact part # I don't want try to remember and lie...

Thanks, I did not realize that you were x-MTI. Thanks for confirming the size, I know what part I need to get now.

One last question. What head gasket thickness did you use on these setups? Did you use the stock gasket?

I believe the stock part number to be: 12589227

Thanks everyone for the help. Valves are Ferrea 6000 2.02 Intake and 1.55 Exhaust. Springs are likely Ferrea Duels. Gasket is stock GM MLS part number 12589227.
