Default catch cans

I have an 07 Coupe and have been wondering how to tell if you really need the oil catch can installed. This car has a mild street cam and tune and gets a little spirited high rpm runs every nbow and then. any help will be appreciated..Thanks VNVETT

When I installed my ported manifold, I saw oil on the bottom of my original manifold. Some oil had dripped into the portholes. That's when I bought a catch can.

All LSX motors consume oil through the intake eventhough GM has tried to remedy the issue. The best thing is to go ahead and install one.

I have one on my '07. I was surprised on how much oil collects in the can especially after a high revving day at the track.

Some have it worse then others, and a lot of it also depends on the driver. Your intake manifold will be coated with oil, which considering a lot of people port and polish for performance, it's not exactly going to help the situation. The stuff coming in also isn't just oil, but other nasties as well. Anyone who has emptied out a catch can will tell you that the stuff that is in there, you'd never want in your engine. It will go into the combustion chamber and lower the octane rating of the fuel you are using by mixing in, as it's not exactly something made to be burned in the engine. I hope that helps.

Some people might never see an issue, and some people might.

The Catch Can is an option and not a requirement. Like a CAI, Headers, Tunnel Plate, CAM, etc.., not a requirement but an improvement over stock, eliminating some of the atomized oil ingested by the Ls engine.

All my cars have them just for piece of mind.

My Z06 sports a Billet Prototypes can now(Thanks Jamesbiz). You don't gain any performance out of it, but you can sleep better knowing your engine will stay cleaner for longer on the inside.

I just installed one from Elite Engineering a few weeks ago. I think it's a good idea to keep as much oil out of the intake as possible; do it.

Got mine from CCA:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...stock-cca.html

Works great w/ high quality & easy install. LG makes a fancy one too

Below is an LS3 intake w/ less than 3000 miles before installing catch can

Installing one couldn't hurt

Now imagine over time, the old oil sticking to everything and more new oil getting on top of that....

The main issue with the oil in your intake stream is the eventual deposits in the combustion chamber. This will create "Hot Spots" on the top of your pistons which will cause KR, reducing timing, and consequently power. A catch can is the minimum that you should do.

I have a rev-extreme catch can and it is absolutely amazing. I pulled my intake manifold off at 15k miles and wiped the inside of it with my finger and there was almost 0 residue on my finder. I was absolutely amazed.

The reason I installed one as soon as I got the car home from the dealer. I empty every 1000 miles or so, and usually get 1 to 1-1/2oz out.
