Thats what I did except for the gears. I might do them down the road but the car gets out of the hole pretty quick on my 325 wide rears as is. And with the A6 the car is always in the powerband when you romp it. If it was a dedicated drag car I would swap em out but Im happy for now.

Has anyone on here done more extensive mods, from, say, Longtube headers/tune to supercharging/turbo, to serious suspension mods and then felt any regret because the car was changed so dramatically? Discuss. [/QUOTE]

Default Racing clutch

I once installed a racing clutch in a sports car 10 years ago, not on a Corvette. It was so hard to push the clutch pedal that I was miserable until I swapped it out for a stock replacement. What a dumb mistake.

No regrets in the slightest. My car is unique to me and not just another '05 silver coupe.

Regrets...not one. I modify a car for my driving enjoyment...not with any concern for resale value. My modding now is mostly for improved track performance. It may end up being a dedicated track car but at this point my car is still very 'streetable.' I enjoyed driving my stock C6 but I enjoy driving my modified C6 about a hundred times more. To me, there's just something about a highly modified car that is satisfying...making a great car even better.

Personally, I dont care about the costs and I dont buy things thinking about selling them. I enjoy them for what they are and then deal with things later if it has to go to a sell point. I guess you have to ask yourself why you're modding before you do it. If you cant sleep at night knowing its nearly a total loss to mod then dont do it. I dont pay for labor to get mods nor do i ever really pay full price on parts but I would if I had to. I mod to have fun especially the wrneching part. Some guys drink and smoke and drop hundreds a month on that non-sense so i dont look at my hobby as a total loss. If I buy 15k in parts and mod then over the few years i have the car, its a few hundred a month. I dont have any other vices so i dont cry about the money.

Its a lot of fun to have a fast car and there is no production car that can keep up with mine. For the guy that is looking more at the money than the car but still decides to mod, get reversable mods such a supercharger instead of a H/C package or get a set of gears in instead of the exhaust that makes no difference.

Hey Spin what about killer home theater/stereo setup - a vice?
I mod my cars right away, I get them to the power level I want, look the way I want, handle/stop the way I want. Hey I gotta be me. Every mod I've done to my C6 Z06 or Z51 A6 coupe has only made it better, more fun, no regrets.
Everyone should mod or not to their comfort level and be happy!

I only regret not starting with a C6Z even though they were $20K more at the time. Until my car runs mid 10's motor and dips in the 9's on spray, it is slow to me.

The deal for me with modding for drag racing at the track is I still want great traction with TC off on the street with little or no spin/sliding with my oem (albeit All Season) runflats. There is a fine line I think to how much you can add with that. I have added CAI, Corsa Sports, Headers and Tune. So far, I still have great traction on any street from a dig WOT through the gears with no spin and just a little chirp through the gears. I also require NO drone while cruising and the combo of Corsa Sports with Kooks headers works. Sounds like Corsa below 3000 rpm and like a race car above it, with No drone at any time.

The best mod for the buck I did was getting my HP Tuner and the worst mod for the buck was a ported stock intake, which I sold. The best free mod was the "free propped shroud air mod" which works just about as good for street use as any aftermarket CAI.

My only regret is not being able to perform all of my intended mods at one time and needing to take intermediate steps.

I added Z06 rear fenders and F&R brakes and bought 4 new wheels and tires. When I do the front fenders/etc. I will probably end up changing the front wheels again instead of using spacers.

I will use the same multi-step process to up-grade the stereo. Install a Nav. head unit first and then add Amps and Speakers later. Having to take the Interior apart twice is regrettable, but like the C6 itself, most mods return a pretty good bang-for-the-buck.

Modding is a disease. Those of us who have done mods to our cars in the past realize that the thirst is always there to continue to do more. Often times it is at the expense of taking the performance part off again to replace it with something new and better. After adding cams, chips, intakes, headers, etc. I resolved to spend the money and do it right the first time so I wouldn't be adding and swapping later on. I can honestly say I have NO regrets with the mods I did to my Z06 this time around. I had a bit of angst during the tuning phase of dialing the car in wondering if I could ever get the street driveability back, but eventually I got there and now I couldn't be happier. Still spend a bit of money now and then on dress up things, but will never need to swap or add anything more for performance.

My wife will disagree with this. She'll tell you it is like a crack addiction. And she's not the one addicted!!!

I am just starting on my mods. So far:

Z06 spoiler (black)
GM Splashguards
DSV Center console
DSV E-brake boot

I will be putting in the MGW shifter (after it arrives) and DSV Shifter boot after I receive the new shifter **** (should be here on Monday) and have DSV replace the leather.

I have the dash inserts and rear bumper inserts to install, but will be waiting for less hunid weather (it has been really humid here in South Texas this winter) to finish this.

Then I am at a crossroads. Do I go ahead and get my steering wheel redone by DSV, then the seats or do I go ahead and get new wheels? I have refrained from any engine enhancements (visual or performance) because the IA (that's Irish Accountant (otherwise known as the wife) wants me to wait until the warranty has expired.

I found that the GHL was pretty tame until I installed Kooks long tubes/catted x-pipe.

The low end loss with my cam is kind of giving me some regrets as to cam selection. Tough to launch the car with the clutch and the power level (which really isn't that much). I'm going to Iraq soon and will save for a clutch, heads and probably gears to make up for the low end.

Well, that's just it Joe. I don't have a road course to drive on. For what I do, the auto would be great....I didnt say I didnt enjoy what I've built up, just that IF I could do it again, I'd take a different route.....but then, knowing me, if I'd have gotten the A6, I'd be saying "I should have got the stick...."

None whatsoever. I hope to keep my car in the family for generations if possible, however if I had to raise cash for some unforseen reason, I would part it out vs. selling outright to maximize my return.
