Got a 1/2" x 18" breaker bar from Harbor Freight for $12. Put the car in 6th gear and the rubbery slack was reduced to about 1/8 turn. A few pulls made me realize I was going to whack an elbow once it lets go with the force required. I added about two more feet of leverage with my jack handle and "pop" the bolt calmly breaks free. I take it out and there is red locktite on the shaft and inside of the head. Now to get that pulley off!
If you are not going to pin the crank use a new bolt. Comes with red stuff on the head. Supply your own loctite. With the crank pinned all this becomes insurance not vital action.
Shh, don't tell but with my crank pinned I've 'gasp' reused the original bolt 3 times Before, with new bolts and no pin, I lost the balancer 3 times. I shift hard.
I am about to remove my ARP crank bolt that has red loctite on it. I am in for a nightmare? I have an impact wrench and i a plan on heat with a mapp gas torch. Any suggestions? how long do i need to heat the bolt?
