This is a 2008 coupe with a removable top. The dealer told me that Chevrolet has a new latch that would cure the problem. Has anyone experienced this from their local Chevy dealer.
The reason I'm asking this, because I do not want a dealer to repair it. If they are going to provide a new latch, I'm okay with that.
Do a search. There is a popular fix utilizing c-clips and/or shrink wrap. I've picked up both but haven't tried it yet. I wouldn't let the dealer fix it from what I've read so far. Here is a thread with plenty of reading material.

I think the new latch is the only repair that chevy has. I have an "08" and the rollers were epoxyed so that they would not move. it made a popping sound on the way home as soon as I took delivery. I just put a little silicone grease on the rollers and pins. it hasn't made any noise since. its an easy 10 min fix and. you don't even have to make an appointment.
I took mine in for creaking roof and told the dealer about the latches and the TSB. They are replacing the ENTIRE ROOF. I have no idea why. Anyone know?

Some of the earlier tops were made out of a different material which could delaminate and fly off the car. A TSB went out to replace those tops if signs of delamination were found.

Mine is a 2007 made after that was resolved, I thought. Maybe not.

That's what they did to mine.. and no more creaks for me
the last latches I saw were epoxied rollers. they lasted a couple thousand miles then the epoxy on the driver side failed. then the epoxy on the passenger side failed about 2k after that.
If you let the dealership do this be prepare to visit them alot. what need to be done is the roller imobilized. some use e-clips to do it. as long as you accomplish this the top will most likly be quiet.
some shrink wrap the front alinment pins as well. I am convinced most of my noise was from the rollers.
the one thing that sucks about moving to a z06 is no more removable top. the one thing that doesn't is battling the crappy latches.
I fixed mine by adding teflon anti-chafe tape to the area that the roller rides on and sprayed the roller with Boeshield T-9. The textured surface rubbing on the rollers is what causes the squeek if you ask me.
My dealer ordered the new handles several months ago and installed them, and SuperLubed everything. Absolutely silent since. I had the roof off last weekend (first time since the fix) and it stayed silent after I put it back on.
There is a TSB on this, if you have any problems with your dealer. If anyone needs it, I can attach the TSB to another post.
i had the latches replaced by the dealer. they needed to order them which took about two weeks. it took the tech less than an hour to put them on. the couple of times that i had the car out before our brutal weather here, and no creaking.
I'd like to relay my experience with my 06. about a year after purchase I started to experience noise from the top that started small but got progressively worse. It manifested as a loud popping/creaking noise from the right front where the roof and the windshield meet. as I was driving I could change or stop the noise by moving the right front roof handle which would change the clamping pressure at that point.
The first step I took was to clean and lubricate the weatherstripping for the roof (which it needed anyway) but the noise returned within days. On a second, closer look, I noticed two rubber o-rings on the front roof locating pins. They had a dry, white residue on them. I cleaned them and applied a silicone lube that we often use to lubricate Mercedes Benz sunroofs and solve other various noise issues.

I dropped mine off and the replaced the latch with no problem. Keep in mind that I drove in with a blown, nasty car and had no issues. I also told the that I was displeased with the wear on the drivers seat and they replaced it no charge also. Its covered, just let them fix it. Its just a car.
My 08 started the creeking and popping noises so I went to the dealer and told them of the TSB and gave them the part #'s for the fix. The service lady said that I could bring it in and the tech would check it out?? I said that it doesn't do it all the time, so if he can't get it to make any noises, what happens. She said he would have to check it out. I brought it home and did what I did to the C3 cars with the T Tops, put a little grease on the pins and latches. Has made a noise since. I, like others here, do not like taking their cars in for any type of service, unless it's a last resort. A buddy of mine took his new C6 in and when he got it back, there was a chip on the edge of the passenger door. Not bad, but a chip that wasn't there before.
