I wanted to get my plastic dash(silver) replaced with a carbon fiber style one. I have a 2007 z and the parts guy at my dealer said 07 doesn't have one. Is that true?

True........Started in '08 and I think was a carbon fiber look alike. I believe the two are interchangable, possibly with minor mods. Do a search, I've seen the change out posted before, good luck.
You can get the GM 2008 faux carbon fiber/leather radio and console surround and it will fit just fine. I have a 2007 and I did it; very happy with the results. I did the install myself, and if I can do it so can you! I ordered my from Gene at GM Partshouse. I think it was about $350.

well that is good to hear. Any estimates on the labor time??
I did the TKO gunmetal fiber look. Regardless of which one you pick, the "look" will be much improved over the cheapo silver plastic. If you do a search, there have been several DIY's with pictures on the forum to guide you through each step.
The trickiest part was figuring out the connectors for the lighter, flasher, etc. I got great advice from the forum members and did mine in a couple of hours. Great tip: Tape off the ashtray lid and any other parts that might get rubbed or scratched during de-install and install. You'll need a torque head screwdriver. Also....while you've got the patient opened up, install a leather boot (wish I would have done that) and throw an MGW shifter in there.
Good luck....
