So if I have 05 tanks in an 07 car......hmmm. Anybody got any ideas? I also got a service fuel system message earlier when I drove it around but the car runs and drives fine.
Here is a picture of the fuel indicator. It is just a resistance based on the position of the float. The information is sent directly to the IPC, so if you 05 tanks and an 07 IPC, you have the same setup I do as far as the fuel gauge goes. The ECM (which is the only thing different) shouldn't really matter.
Do you have any kind of ABS codes? I had the same thing on mine for a while, even though it was working fine. I had replaced the EBCM/BPMV and needed to hook it up to a Tech II to bleed the air out. As soon as I did this and the ABS light went out, the "Service Fuel System" never came on again.
EDIT:
Here you go David, this is the Service Information description.
The fuel level sensor consists of a float, a wire float arm, and a variable resistor. The position of the float arm indicates the fuel level. The fuel level sensor contains a variable resistor, which changes the resistance corresponding to the amount of fuel in the fuel tanks. The PCM uses inputs from both fuel level sensors in order to calculate the total fuel remaining in both fuel tanks. This information is sent via a Class 2 message to the instrument panel cluster (IPC) to be displayed on the fuel gage.

Hey thanks 2000C-5. I really appreciate your input. I know where the main connector for the tanks is under the car. I wonder if I could get an ohm reading there or if I would need to go directly to the sender to check it. I think I may try to scan it first. Thanks again and any other info is appreciated as well.

you should be able to read a resistance right off of the connector. I'd go for the passenger side tank, the driver side is a little harder to get to.
