Check out a few of my "installed pics" from 3 weeks ago. Although it may be difficult to show all of the fit and finish, you can see it's all secure. The "rubber clamp" system is a bit odd, but it is very secure and the fit is very tight and secure. I only wish the template for cutting the shroud was a bit more accurate as I ended up trimming about 2 inches too high on the shroud. Other than that, no complaints. FWIW, I've heard that their more recent version is much improved over what they used to manufacture.
Yes I have too picked leaves and twigs and other debris from my MAF screen on a brand new 402 stroker motor!! I will say Vararam sent me a new upper unit and seal right away. The new unit quality is much better but fits so tight the end of my filter bends in on one side leaving a very small amount of filter to seal contact area. I worked and worked to try and get it closer but was unsuccessful. It is sealed now and I live in Wyoming so I have only been able to drive my car a few times since fall. I will be keeping a close eye on the seal as I can not afford to risk debris into my motor if this new unit fails to seal as my original one did. My advice is for anyone that has a Vararam to just be aware and check the seal often. A few minutes to check the quality of the seal around the unit could save you in the long run from engine damage. If you have any concerns call Vararam as they were very eager and willing to help. I think there customer service is great. I think the design of the ram air style intake is a very efficient and great design. I am not really keen on the way the filter seals between the upper and lower halves. I will be watching and monitoring the seal and may have to spend some time modifying the unit to make a better seal or possibly replacing the unit if it fails again.
Mike, I sent you an e-mail today, concerning the Honker on my 08 MN6, trigerring a repeated check engine light along with some surging. Please reply, as I read you all have come up with a fix with some replacement parts.
You won't (well, shouldn't) have any surging issue with the Honker, ever.
Check your system for any loose connection or have the MAF looked at. The Honker just doesn't require any "special tweaks" - it is properly engineered to deliver air correctly over the MAF.
I would go with the Callaway. The only downside? A stupid name. Coming from a world famous company for top notch products/vehicles.. 'HONKER' ? Like wtf

Anybody with a Vararam do testing with a manometer to prove the bogus ramair claims? Thats what I thought. You guys should all add a turbonator and throttlebody spacer as well, it is worth .5 in the 1/4, its true cause I said so.
I'd get the Callaway.
Full disclosure, I have the LPE unit and the only issue is the difficulty of filter cleaning.

PipeDreams over at nakidparts.com sells a decent Vararam cover for a very reasonable price if you don't want to look at it. extremepsi.com sells blue or black couplers to replace the stock red ones.

From what I have read here Vararam is the king of crappy quality. I would love to see what VR users talk about proven and not just heresay. You are saying that if you switched out your VR for a Callaway or LPE unit you would lose .3 and 3 mph in the 1/4? For the VR to produce ram air gains above and beyond other intake design it would need to produce positive pressure (ie "ram air") at wide open throttle. With its design it is just not possible until speeds that are way beyond reachable in the 1/4 if at all. Can you smell the stuff you are shoveling?

What I have posted about VR quality is not negativity it is fact. And I could care less either way, really all I am after is truth in advertising. When an independant goes out and posts slower times after switching from the VR to one from another vendor, or when one goes out and posts faster times after switching to the VR I will believe, but that still would not excuse the subpar quality.

why the caps? Not entirely true. I am the local #1 1/4 mile C6 bolt-on champ at my local drag strip and I used the "free air mod". I went from 13.35 (w/Corsa Sports & 160 t-stat) to 12.54 with the only change being the free air mod propped shroud!! That's .81 difference, more than you got from your free Vararam! Yes, we agree some of the best things in life are FREE, not to mention the sweet smell of "free"

i have never experienced any quality issues as my old and very first vr that got those great times from 12.91 to 12.38 is on LS1LT1 car and you can see he went from 12.21 to 11.70 i drive year round, i drive in snow, i drive in bad rain, and hit puddles on purpose.
this is what VVARARAM did for me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cANWkaqbfPw

So you guys gained .51 in the 1/4 with VR being the only change? No tuning right?

Maybe you had one of Vararam's first units. As I said in my previous post, I saw no quality issues with mine. Fit and finish were good, no warping, no gaps, a tight fit. Definitely not subpar quality, by any means.
