Default Crunching on 1-2 upshift (MN6)

I've noticed that, when I'm gunning it in 1st gear and I quickly upshift to 2nd at high revs, I get a slight crunch on the 1-2 shift. During normal driving, this never happens. I'm thinking either I have a worn synchro (car only done 25k miles) or/and I need new trans oil. Or, maybe I'm just 'beating' the synchros?

Anyone had 1st-hand experience of this issue? Car is a 2005 Z51.

Thanks,
Ian.

Ian,

My 2005 Z51 transmission failed at about 64,000 miles. I am currently in arbitration with Easy Care, an extended warrranty company, concerning the coverage of the repairs. My replacement transmission exhibits a notchiness when going from 1st to 2nd, particularly when cold. It is not related to RPM. I believe this is indicative of weak synchro design which was changed for the 2008 model year which uses the T6060 transmission. The original transmission also exhibited similar issues. If I had it to do over again, I would change the transmission fluid and look very carefully for any sign of metal paticles and seek repair under warranty if any are found.

Yea, I've got the notchiness when cold, too. It's ALMOST as bad as the Ferrari F355 I had (although with that car, you could probably bend the shifter trying to get it into 2nd when stone cold!). The high RPM shifting, however, is a definite crunch/grind rather than notchiness (which eases-up once the gear oil is warm). Think I'll change the trans oil as a first step.

Anyone else?

All of the above. Too much of #3 with a dash of #2 has led to #1.
