I have a 05 z51, a4, vert with 40,000 miles. I bought her two weeks ago, and I do not have a warranty; Just to set the stage.
I rinsed her down Friday night for a Saturday show. On the way home the service traction control message appeared. No CEL light, just the message for a few seconds. I shut her down, restarted and all seemed well. On the way to the show, about five miles down the highway the traction control came on. I was running a steady 70 mph. The car would not accelerate. I shut it off all together by holding down the button for 6 seconds. I turned it back on a few minutes later and once again all was well. All the way home, and 70 miles worth the next day no problems. Oh, when I left the house Saturday it was around 25 degrees out. I put a new optima battery in it Saturday after the show. My wife's suburban is in the shop and she drove it to work this morning, and she said it did it to her. Again it was mid twentys out side. Any ideas? Is it just being cold?
Thanks,
Walker

I am currently having the exact same problem with my 05 Coupe automatic at 13,000 miles. It is still under the extended warranty. Mine also goes into a "reduced power" mode. And I get "Service Active Handling System" and "Service Traction Control System" on the DIC. It seems like its in 3rd gear all the time even when you start from a dead stop. It does reset and go away when I turn the car off. The dealer replaced the transmission control module first ($480+ if I had to pay for it), but it did not fix the problem. I am taking it back in the morning to let them try again and will let you know what happens. Without a warranty, it could really get costly to remove and replace parts until the bad part is found. By the way, it is in the mid 70's here.

Please keep me posted! This is way to cold for Atlanta
Mine did that once when it was really cold too. I was told it could be realted to something in the rear end. Diff or speed sensors something like that. If you can get an obd 2 code reader it should throw a code when that light goes off even though it doesnt display on the dic (the codes dont show on the dic for c6's).

"It is actually very common. So much so that you will even find a section in the owners manual dedicated to it. It is basically doing exactly as it states, warming up. It can take up to 20 minutes for it to finish its warm-up and calibration cycle and while it is displaying the message, active handling is not functioning."
as far as i'm aware of, it's perfectly normal. mine does it every once in a while, but only when the car hasn't been running for very long, usually within 15 or 20 minutes of startup. hope this helps some.

Talon90 is a sharp guy, probably the best on this forum, but sorry this problem has nothing to do with warming up. We are talking about it going into a reduced power mode or something similar as well as throwing the message on the DIC - and it does indicate codes when the dealer checks it. I have them if anyone needs them. I'll keep you all posted on my outcome.
This is a traction control issue. There is no warning other than saying the traction control is active. It said service it friday night after the bath, but has not said it since. You are driving along doing 70, the traction control active come on the dic. you can not accelerate but it maintains 70. Click off the traction control, go a few miles turn it back on and all is well until the next sub-freezing start up from cold. I need an updated scanner for this thing and will try to pick one up Tuesday.
FYI. I get both messages :"Service Active Handling System" and "Service Traction Control System" on the DIC - they flash alternately. My car is still at the dealer - no word today so I assume they are still working on the problem. I'll keep you all posted.
This is a common when your tire sensors go bad or not recognized
by the BCM. You get those DIC messages and the car goes into "limp mode". This happens a lot to C6 drag racers who use drag tires without
sensors. They get around it by turning off TC and AH. This might not be related to the problem the OP has, but I thought I would chime in here.

Does the cold effect he tire sensors? Same deal today. It was above freezing and all was well.
He is saying there could be an issue/problem with your "body control
module" = BCM. That's something for your dealer to check. I dont think its your tires sensors per se, but those messages you get are controlled by the BCM.
