This is my opion, I personally own a 08 zo6 but i am in fla for vacation and my girlfriend suprised me and rented a herts c6. my impresion as of about 2hrs of driving so far paddle shift is not a f1 but the most fun i have had in a vette its great, on 95 it was a blast. I have looked into a callaway car since last summer and almost pulled the trigger but shyed away. The ls3 makes a way better note than the ls7.I honstely cant get out of the car . For me this meets my needs. I am not saying the ls3 is a better car but the power is layed down alot smoother and if i were not road racing i would go gor a ls3 callaway sc 580 with the auto this car is a blast . I still love my z but this car is a joy to drive with no clutch. I Ireally cant bileave the exhaust note on this car and i have the fused pulled on my z .THe ls3 is way lodder even my gf said so. I am not saying this car is faster but with the selective ride it sure is nice. Maybe i am off because i have not driven my z in 4 months but this car really does it for me on the street. More to come still have 4 more days with the car. Gotta go play the lottery so i can order a callaway sc 630 vert now where talking. on a lighter note my balled head is tossed had the roof off for 2hrs not good on a balled head that live in cleveland ohio all winter LOL!
Nice to know. Most guys don't give the A6 credit (who have not used it) but its hella fun and my last car was a KB Cobra. Add H/C/Bolt-ons to a tuned A6 and it flat rocks.
The only automatic I have is in my truck (6-speed Tundra), but I would like to drive an A6. Glad to hear you're having fun. Pretty high praise from a Z06 owner. Quicksilver, you hearing this?
You must be the first person that rented one that did not return on a hook. Hertz has had several wrecked by people who think they are the next Mario Andretti.

as i said ,i do own a 08 zo6 and this car lays the power down alot smoother it might be the auto i dont know but its fun for a rental.
I think I'm going to have to test out an A6... I'm one of those guys whos said he'd NEVER get an auto vette, but the A6 has changed all of that. I full understand that it's not a double-clutch setup, but having 6 gears allows you to have your cake and eat it too.
If I get a C6 it's going to be a vert daily driver w/ NPP and F55.
I was very interested in a paddle shift when I bought mine, but I was disappointed in the shift time. Maybe after a good tuner went through it, I would have been happy, but I was not going to chance it.
FWIW, automatics feel smoother than sticks. When I was running mid 11s in my A4 Camaro, I rode in a M6 Camaro. It was violent and a blast to experience. I thought the car was fast, but then he told me low 12s was what he was running. Automatics can be deceptively fast.
^ Yes... but what's the point in a manual upshift unless you want to short shift it? All the tiptronic Porsches I've driven (used to sell them) would upshift automatically right at redline quick and crisp. Yes... ther was a slight delay when manually upshifting, but downshifting was quick/crisp. The way I see it if running a road course you'd use the paddles to downshift and hold a gear, but just put the pedal down in the straights and let the trans hit the upshifts on it's own. Does the A6 not work this way?
The A6 will auto shift in Sport mode as long as you don't touch the paddles. Once you hit the paddles, you need to drop it back to Drive and then into Sport again for it to auto shift.
I went from an '03Z to an '06 A6 to an '08 Z08. I liked the A6 for cruising around town, but I really missed the manual. And my wife loved the A6, too.
If I could have two Vettes, I would have an A6 Z51 convertible and keep my '08 Z06. But sadly the wife would never go for it, so the Z06 stays. There's no way I'd give up the Z. Ever (unless financial crisis hit, then it would be the first thing to go). Would I buy an A6 Z06 if they dropped the beefed up one from the CTS-V in there? Probably not. But I'd bet there are many who would.

Buy the Callaway. You will forget all about the Z06

Chuck's A6 tune reduced the paddle shift times by about 50%. It's doable now. I still never even use them though, his tune make the trans totally different and you really don't even need them, it will hold gears much longer. FYIW.
