Hello, I am a new Corvette owner as of Saturday afternoon and had a quick question for anyone out there. I have a 2005 Convertible with standard exhaust. What would you guys recommend if I wanted to get more of the dual mode exhaust sound? I have looked into magnaflow, flowmaster, borla, corsa etc but do not really know much about them. Any info would be great. Thanks
It's all a matter of personal taste some are louder than others. My suggestion would be to try and listen to the different ones out there before plunking down 1k plus on a system. Keep in mind that if you plan on adding headers it makes all of em louder. You may even want to consider picking up a complete take off Z06 system. They can be found on the C6 parts for sale section of the forum modestly priced. Good luck with your decision.
Good luck on someone here trying to convince you of what you might like. I will say I don't like the NPP due to the clutter in and around the tips. Although I will say I've had several systems and now have the Corsa Extreme and am totally satisfied.
Make sure you do a ton of research. Any deep sounding muscle car exhaust will give you a VERY irritating cabin drone. Some systems like the Route 66 are only slightly louder than stock and are a waste of money IMHO.
I just went from flowmaster to corsa sport. They garuntee no cabin drone and everybody Ive talked to with them raves about the system. Its pricey but its the best.

I can tell you for certain no way can they guarantee anything. I did have substantial drone with my Sport system and the offroad x-pipe in the 15-1700 range. Needless to say, KOOKS catted mid section is now on with the new Extreme system.

ANY deep sounding will drone???????????. Apparently you have ridden in every C6 in existence but mine, since I have NO drone with Borla Stingers.
So, as you can see, do a ton of research first, unless you like paying for a new system every 3 weeks.
I don't know about the/a Z06 takeoff; the pipes will need to have a connector for the right size pipes onto your '05. The NPP, on the other hand, will fit without modifications. But nothing is truly inexpensive.
The two that are least likely to drone are the Borla Touring and Corsa Touring. Others may (stress: may) drone at cruising speeds. The Genuine GM aftermarket exhaust is made by, and to the specs of Borla Touring. I believe there's also and "off-road" exhaust they sell equivalent to the next-up Borla loudness system. So, if you see this on parts for sale, you'll know it's a "re-badged" Borla.

I agree with other folks- exhaust sound can be subjective and should consider hearing them in person.
I had Corsa sports for 11 monthes and it was great till I wanted little louder. I bought Corsa extreme and now has minor drone at 1800 rpm.
Good luck with new exhaust hunting
At the end of the day, it's hard to beat the NPP system. Stock quiet when you want it, yet can get bullet loud at the flip of a switch (if you have a controller). I don't know of too many folks that had the NPP and switched to another system. Have heard of many folks, with many different systems, that weren't satisified. Do it right the first time.
You might want to consider that whatever exhaust you choose, it will get louder with mods. An exhaust that sounds good with a stock motor can get ugly when you add bolt ons and more cam.
I have magnaflow on my 05 and it is the most annoying thing ever...I can't wait to get it off there..you can't even talk inside..Sooooo much drone...i've heard great things about Z06 pulloffs..might wanna check it out..Thats what i'm gonna try and get..

I was talking about the complete Z06 system from the manifolds to the mufflers. I believe the system has been reported to give you a decent hp increase for the investment.
Did Magnaflow and HATED the dreaded drone!
I did the Z06 system and it was the best thing I could have done. It is far less expensive than the NPP and the sound is still 100% controlled via the M2W.
If you install a Z06 exhaust in a non-NPP coupe, what controls the butterfly valves? I'm assuming the SW in the ECU for controlling it is absent in the non-NPP coupe. Do you need the "NPP in a Box" or similar?
