Default Service active handling system while Autocrossing

I have been doing some autocrossing and have been getting a "Service active handling system" display. It happens in the middle of the run and stays untill you restart the car. I am running a seperate set of wheels with unmarried TPS and a set of Hoosier A6. 2008 Auto. Any ideas?

jonparks. Do you get the message with your stock wheels and TPS sensors? If no, you have answered your own question. If yes, you need to see what codes have been set. Bill S.

Completely turn off AH/TC (hold down 5+ secs) and you won't see it or be affected by it. You may see the warning when you start the car between runs but it will go away when the system is disabled. I run all day without TPS anywhere around the car as I leave my street wheels at home.

I've received this message every time I've taken my car to the racetrack. It goes away after my car has set and been shut off. I talked to a couple others who have gotten this message and they had the same experience. By the way, I run with stock wheels/tires and my car in competition mode (active handling still enabled, traction control disabled) although I am going to try it next with the system totally disabled.

Without sensors you will most likely get a "Service Tire Monitor" message, NOT a "Service AH" message.

If you got a "Service Tire Monitor" message you wouldn't be able to go into Comp mode or turn off AH completely.

I don't think your AH message has anything at all to do with no sensors. The AH system uses yaw rate sensors and accelerometers to sense the turning rate of the car, and it can tell if the tail-end is letting loose and will put on individual brakes to try to keep the car from swapping ends or spinning out. I believe the AH talks to the ABS through the EBCM.

If you were running in AH full on or in Comp mode you may see a message "Handling Active", meaning the AH is doing its thing. Are you sure that wasn't the message you saw? That would be perfectly normal to see that any time you invoke AH. If you have AH all the way off you won't get that message because, well, the AH system is off.

So....I don't think the message has to do with no sensors.

BTW, if you have sensors in your Autox tires, why don't you just "marry" them? You can get a tool for $114 and it takes about 60 seconds to register the sensors every time you swap wheels/tires/sensors.

If you have a telescopic steering wheel their have been problems with the sensor becoming uncliped/unhooked in the steering wheel. My service active handling would come on while regular driving at times and I had to take it in for the dealer to fix. I cant remember if their is a TSB on this but I belive their was.

The message reads service AH system for sure. I just thought it might be nice to use Comp mode seeing how that is what it is for. I know there is pros and cons for both settings. It just bugs me... I don't think GM is going to lower my payment because the AH doesn't work in comp mode... so it should work I paid for it. Errrr! The poor souls at the dealer really dont have a clue. Thanks for all the help

Another thing I just thought about. What size are your race wheels/tires?
If the OD of the tires is much different than stock sizes, it may be confusing the AH system.
You should be able to use comp mode autocrossing without issue. My bet is that either having the sensors not married, or your tires diameter difference from front to rear is too big or small compared to the stock tires, confusing the system.

FYI I use 275/35/18 Front and 305/35/18 track tires and can use whatever mode I want without any error messages but,I marry the sensors each time I change from street to track wheels.

Here's a link to a Bartec Trackside sold by forum vendor Katech:

http://store.katechengines.com/share...unt2=320243477

It sells for $140 and I don't know what shipping is. They had a 20% off sale going on until the end of Feb - maybe if you call and tell them you're a forum member they'll honor that price.

Check your PMs and I'll send you a link to another one sold by a source that is not a forum vendor.
