Default Remove TPMS Sensors?

Can I just remove all of the TPMS sensors and still be able to take traction control/Active Handling off? I think I remember a thread about removing them and everything would work but Im just making sure.

Thanks,
Anthony

I have an 08 base and track it. I couldn't turn it off completely without removing two ABS fuses after having it put the brakes on in the straights. I ended up buying 4 cheap sensors and a trackside. I love knowing the tire pressure as a side benefit. I still run it with the 5 sec off, as even the competition mode doesn't allow throttle steering in tight turns. Trackside at Wright Tool 248-643-6666 $140. Orange sensors $45 ea from Revolutionsupply.com. I didn't have issues when I changed tires at the track, but had the issues when I drove 100 miles to the track with the R1 rubber on the car.

Strangely, I've heard of some people having problems without using TPS's while others don't. My friend has mounted his track tires without sensors and ran (in comp mode) just fine. I have another friend who can't do this. He sometimes needs to change tires quickly so he installed TPS's in 4 small go-cart tires and has the go-cart tires in the rear cargo area clamped to his roll bar (which I thought a novel solution).

My manual states the following: "The SERVICE TIRE MONITOR message is displayed when the TPM system is malfunctioning. For example, one or more TPM sensors may be inoperable or missing. Also, the active handling system will be affected..." The manual also says, "If you drive your vehicle while any of the four sensors are missing or inoperable, the warning will come on in about 60 minutes."

I once hit the track without one sensor being properly registered and I almost immediately got a Service Tire Monitor warning (not 60 minutes) and couldn't engage comp mode. With TC and AH then engaging constantly it was dangerous....I immediately exited the track and set the sensor.

It appears there are discrepancies between what the manual says and what can actually happen. You may or may not have a problem without TPS's. I use TPS's in my track tires. You could try it without sensors and see what happens. If you have a problem, install sensors.

I have seen a thread where a gent made a container from PVC, put the TPMS sensors in the container and pressurized it to 30psi. Put the container in a cubby and was done with it. With that solution, though, you loose TPMS unless you go through the hassle of registering all the time.

It is a bit smaller than four go cart tires and lighter too . But more hassle.

This helps me out. I was at T-Hill recently with new track wheels without TPS and I had all sorts of active handling interventions. I don't think I could get into Competition mode either. I finally had to turn it completely off and go rambo! Even with it turned off, I still got warnings and service soon crap. I'm on my way to get some sensors installed.

The sensors are on (inside) the wheels (behind the Schrader valve). The sensors can be removed. What cannot be removed is the receiver in the car and the software that deals with the sensor results.

Some of these ideas seem like a lot of work to save a couple hundred dollars. I use sensors in my track wheels...and just reprogram the wheels that I am using.

Amen "there is no right way to do the wrong thing."
Guys check the C6 parts for sale section you can sometimes suit up with a set up for a reasonable price.
