Default Launch Advice

Ok,

For my 8th Corvette I bought a six-speed Z-51 equipped C6. Probably not the best car to start re-learning how to shift but hey I wanted something different.

I have the smooth shifting thing down pretty good. 1st to second is getting smoother, second to third is a breeze and into the other gears is just like butter.

Now we come to the launch question. In my previous Vets you just nail the throttle and they go maybe squirm a little and pitch a bit but off you go.

Not this thing! Every time I rev her up a little and let out the clutch all I hear is the tires grabbing for pavement and the thing just sits there and spins off the tread on the Goodyears.

How in the heck do you lauch this thing to get any kind of 0-60 or 1/4 mile time. Sure after you get to 40mph the sucker is gone like the wind but that getting it out of the hole thing sucks when you don't know the fine points of driving a stick. I had a guy show me how to speed shift and I'm OK at that.

This getting it off the line I just can't figure out. Any sage advice would be appreciated because right now my best iphone time is like 5.5 seconds to 60 which my C4 does in iphone recorded 4.6 seconds with an automatic and only 300hp.

I know there is a racers technique somewhere out there just like the speed shift thing I was shown.

Please share your C6 wisdom.

Quite simply launching will be FAR easier after replacing the runflats with non-runflats. I couldn't launch my '05 at all until my stock tires wore out and I replaced them, now the thing sticks to the road like glue and I feel like I could use more power

What did you replace them with? Is there any kind of kit that where you can add a stowaway spare to these cars? Other tires might help for sure. It just seems like the rear doesn't connect to the ground at all with me and a 6 speed. Granted I don't know what I am doing but the 05 C6 AT that I had stuck like glue. I have put the car for sale on the forum and cars.com because I am just not digging the 6spd that much. I feel like I'm out of my element with all this power and a clutch.

Mine are BF Goodwrich T/A's. Many people w/out runflats buy tire repair kits for adverse situations, or simple rely on their cellphones
