Default Wider tires better?

OK , i posted a question to which most people said that changing from 285 to 305 tires on a c6 will not really make a difference. So i guess my question is, if thats true , why are so many people going to 305s on their c6....Is it just for looks or people dont know better or what? I dont get it? PLease advise

Not that many people are getting 305 width tires, and those that are are getting a SPECIFIC 305 width tire; either a Nitto 555R / R2 or a Toyo Proxes R888; both of those only fit the C6 in 305 width since they don't have a 285 width with the correct overall diameter.
Both of those tires are R-Compounds with a Threadwear of 100; that is a night and day difference over run flats, and even over any street tire.
That is why I got a 305 tire. I bet less than 0.5% of C6 owners are getting those tires and those that do know what they are doing.

The 305 R888 wont fit the stock c6 wheel will it? I thought 295 was the widest you could go...

305 should fit easily...I autocross 325 Hoosiers (on a stock size wheel, so they're not really getting to the full potential of their 325) without issue.

I recently changed from a 285 Nitto NT555R to a 305 Yokohama Advan sport on my car and the difference in traction is very noticeable. The 285's didn't stand a chance at low speed WOT bursts. The 305 Yokohamas are doing a way better job.
