So what did you do??
something making noise, goes away when it warms up?
oil pressure normal?
sound like you need to return to the dealer and have them check it.
wrong (no check valve) oil filter will cause a noise at start up until oil press build up,
can you tell us more about the noise??

Could this be hydraulic valve lifter noise.

It sounds like a lifter. Some times they dont get enough oil on start up because its too thick. Are you using the recommended weight? Are you parking it somewhere its cold like outside?

Lifter noise is more of a ticking sound, not a knock. And it should disappear within seconds not minutes of starting.

Does the knocking sound louder under load before it disappears? I'm thinking piston slap until parts expand enough (from heat) to quiet it.

What kind of oil pressure do you have when hot and cold (idle)?

Most likely piston slap. Most dealers will tell you its normal during cold start up.

Is your car under warranty????

If so, at least get it documented and see what the dealer says about it. Once it documented, if theres a problem in the future, you will have a better chance of some sort of assistance (IF GM STILL EXIST IN THE FUTURE!!!:leaving

Got to the dealer and get it documented. I did. My 05 sounds like a box of rocks when it's cold and then for a while after when lifting the throttle between shifts.
The dealer told me it was due to the short skirt pistions. Mine goes away after the car is warmed up too. Not confidence inspiring to say the least. I thought I had a spun bearing or a connecting rod trying to set itself free from the block.

Interesting.
My daily driver is a 2005 GTO with the A4. I bought the car with only 4K miles. I currently have 81K miles. The car is stock, save for a Lingenfelter CAI. I do all of the oil changes myself and have used nothing but Mobil One 5W30 Full Synthetic, changed every 5K miles. I have a 100 mile round trip commute every day. All highway miles.
Last year I heard a loud knocking sound coming from the LS2 upon cold start up. It went away fairly quickly, like in 5 seconds. Then I never heard it again. Fast forward to this past Monday, temps were in the 30's and the knocking came back. Again it only lasted about 5 seconds and quickly went away as the car started to warm up. I have not heard it since, and air temps have been in the 30's.
Is this normal?
