Vararam hydro lock possibilities?
seriously searching threads will be more helpful. This subject has been beaten to death. I have a vararam and i have driven on the interstate through sheer downpours and never had trouble. Other people have had issues, its more of driving through puddles and submerging than drving through downpours that presents the danger i suppose. Either way, i recommend you try a search
If you submerge it, you'll pop a motor. If you don't submerge it (don't take your vet through more than a 3-4" puddle) then you'll never have an issue.
I also live in S. Florida and have NEVER driven my vet through a 3"+ puddle. These are usually easy to avoid in even in South Florida.

If you are concerned about this, I would pass on the VR and probably any CAI. There is a greater chance of this with inlets/filters lower than stock. The VR is the lowest at about 8" off ground (though sprayed water could get into it), the Honker intake is a better bet about 16" off ground. Stick with stock, though there still is a very remote possibilty even with that if you speed through high standing water.
FLc6...that name is familiar...
You missed the Corvette Challenge yesterday! Next one is May 2.
I've had a vararam or a breathless intake on my vettes for 6 years now with no problem, and my vette is my daily driver. But I drive my truck when I think it might rain hard, and I know where the low spots are that collect ponds on my way to/from work and I avoid those.
All that said, Quicksilver just blew up his engine in Palm Beach County by hydrolocking it.

anything IS possible, knock on wood, my vararam hasn't got me hydrolocked here in the lowcountry (charleston,sc), been over 1 year and 10k.
i believe with the design of the vararam makes it so you need to have water go over the bottom air dam, luckly thats about 7" on a stock ride height z51 c6 vette

Not worth the risk if you dive it normally in bad weather.......you'll be on eggshells all the time when it rains. Is it really worth it for a few hp?
I'd rather get a top breather and be done with it.

Ive driven mine in rain. The water barely makes it into the intake. If your a retard and your puddle moshing in your vette yeah it probably could happen. But I dont know of a vette owner that drives his or her car through water like that so I really dont understand what all the fear is about.

You occasionally can drive your C6 batmobile at night and miss big puddles of deep water or even seeing them in dark daylight thunderstorms. Not to mention taking your eyes off the road to look at batgirl next to you when driving your c6 batmobile at speed in deep puddles.

I know two people here in Lil' Ol' Albuquerque who hydrolocked their engines running Vararams. (We get less than 10" of rain a year, but you should be here the day we do!)
All it takes is one good sized puddle which you don't see or maybe you do but the monster truck driving the other way roars through and launches a bow wave into your intake and see ya!

You miss a big bat point.

Must be alot of "stupid" drivers out there. Given the fact majority of vette owners do NOT modify their cars, hearing about the couple people in NM, reports of owners in Florida having issues, my own car back last summer, quicksilvers recent situation, various other threads over the years..........this seems alot more common then led to believe.

With the search function on this site you are doing really good to find a thread on anything using it. It sucks!
I have a Vararam and have had no problems. As others have said, stay out of deep water and your good
