I have spent the last 1.5 years in the C4 forums. I am getting ready to sell my 93 Ruby LT1 6 speed and get into a used C6. My wife really hates to shift and wants an automatic. I have been hanging around the C6 forum to get a little more info before I buy something. My understanding is the the A6 has a standard mode, a sport mode and some threads refer to a "tune". What is a "tune" on these transmissions and what is involved, (i.e. dropping the trans)??? Also how much does it help the A6? Thanks in advance.
A A6 tranny "tune" is like an engine tune using a hardware and software interface to go into the C6 tranny computer module (TCM) via the OBDII port under the dash (you dont touch the actual transmission). It changes settings such as shift speed, shift feel, shift torque, shift lag, yada yada.
Personally I find the A6 tranny as it is, quite good and while I have engine "tuned" (ECM) the car, I have not touched the TCM. My only real beef is the paddle shifter mode lags some until actually making the shift.
I keep mine mostly in "S" sport mode since "D" drive mode shifts out at about 5800 rpm while S mode goes to near redline for WOT use. I occasionally use
Paddle mode when I go to a road racing track.
