QUESTION 1: Just installed the MTI Short Shifter. Quality is excellent, however it is still waaaaay louder than the stock shifter. DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A SHORT SHIFTER that still provides quality but has incorporated sound deadening aspects as the stock shifter??? Has to be one out there??
QUESTION 2: In addition, I have driven european cars and they like there shifters to be the length of an eighteen wheeler... lol But has anyone heard of actually cutting the actual physical length of the shifter and re-threading it? I feel the shifter could be 1 inch shorter to sit perfectly in the console..?

i felt the same way, i bought a cheap **** from pepboys that i like, it had leds to light up at night, removed the leds and bored out the small hole at the top of the shifter so now the top of the **** is flush with the top of the shift rod, no noticeable increase in effort, when i was satisfied i painted it, and stuffed it with putty to give it more weight, weight about 2 x stock shifter, attaches via set screws, looks cool and cost me $25 and about 2 hours of work
How's the actual shifting?
And do you have a picture of yours?
well I don't know how to post pics, but PM me your e-mail addy and I will send you pics. I wanted the stock ****, {I have 1 of the first 35%} and this drove George at MGW nuts at first! now the way they make the shifter I can change ***** just by changing shaft's the shaft clamps on the shifter, this also allows you to put the **** where you want it I'm tall so i have the **** at six o'clock it sits further back or just like the face of a clock I can move the **** around the shifter, at first I thought the **** was way! to high and I started modifying the other shaft{he sent both shafts, stock ****-custom ****} and then I found I did'nt push the **** down far enough!!! now unless you really know what your looking at you can not tell it from stock! I have not missed 2-3 since the install and it feels like this is the way it should have been from the factory, you can believe the rest of us who have it or you can do like ALOT of others did and buy All the others first, trying to prove us wrong, but in the end you will buy the MGW LTD! check the parts forum, I'm sure you will find the "others" you can buy and try those first!!!
WOW... MGW should have you on there payroll. That was well written and I am sold!!

Can anyone advise how well the MGW shifts at low ambient temperatures such as 10 to 20F?
My stock 07 non-Z51 MN6 can hardly shift at all until the trans warms up which takes 10 to 15 minutes. Anybody else up north notice this problem? Crappy made in Mexico component!
I never had this problem with the 93 MN6 ZF transmission.
Thanks

No problems here in Michigan winters. Drive very little in the winter but the MGW shifter works fine. Much better than stock. The Vettes transmission is very notchy when cold however the MGW shifter is not affected.

Don't take this the wrong way, but are you sure you put everything back the same way?
When I installed my Callaway shifter, I took a ride before I put everthing else back together. It was real loud. Then when I put the rubber and console back, it was quiet as stock.
Good question?
I had the dealership installer take care of it.
What exactly should I ask him?

I've had a B&M shifter in my 05 for 3 years. It really improved the shifting, AND it's never made any more noise than the stock shifter did (i.e. low noise and vibration if I leave my hand on the **** while cruising, quiet otherwise). I've heard many complaints about this and other shifters that did not match my experience and wondered why. Then I realized that I had ground down the shifter shaft to fit the stock **** more than necessary, and put 2 or 3 turns of duck tape on the shaft to snug up the ****. I didn't think about it at the time, but I suspect that my annoying mistake gave me a much quieter installation.

Yes you did, you were just stronger back then (and yes, I had one, a '93). Has nothing to do with ZF or Tremec. Has to do with fluid, cut of gears, etc. If you really think it's bad, have the fluid drained and refilled. And just allow it to warm up when you drive it.

Yes, many, many times we find that sources of noise are either in the transmission mounting fasteners underneath the shift housing, and the **** has alot to do with it. I have even seen stock shifters make noise.
As mentioned above in the quotes, check those measures to confirm.
I will be out for the weekend, back in the office Monday. I won't be able to see this post until then.
Your shifter is outstanding as far as precision... But I had the dealership install the kit and I cant believe how loud it is with high rpm's. Any advice I can give my dealership would certainly be useful. And it seems like everyone is going to the MGW for the quality and sound properties...? Your thoughts.. ? I very unhappy with the sound...

Keep in mind that the vibrations generated through the torque tube resonate up a shifter, like an antennae. Let's check that first.
Here is a thread that someone posted. It has good pictures and description of what to check. Also retain the noise isolation pad. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-z...w-shifter.html
Keep me posted on what you find...I'll be here until 6pm.
