I had a long winter to contemplate which exhaust to purchase. This involved watching multiple you tube videos with sound clips, web research and pocketbook. I settled on the Flomaster quad tips- found a deal online for $342 to my door, $75 to install.
I started the car and noticed an immediate rumble I had not heard before, which pleased me and I thought my "quiet" stock exhaust was history (which was provided to me intact by the shop). I like the initial startup sound and the WOT isn't bad either, its the 1500 rpm cruising drone that has me in a quandry. I have looked into soundproofing, adding some resonators or just deal with it.
My question is, how many of you have tried the aftermarket exhaust route and put back on the stock exhaust? I am close to that point and wanted some opinions before I proceed with wrenches.
I've had Flowmasters for on for 2 years and 15,000 miles and have even driven cross country in 4 days with this exhaust on. I don't really hear any drone with it, but then again I'm never cruising at 1500 RPM.
i have dual SLP Loudmouths on my C6. i LOVE it.
Had them on my ls1 trans am as well...and sounded GREAT
Iv had flowmasters in the past and didnt care much for them...however i like it LOUD lol
Anyhoo...most of these aftermarket exhuasts are great at making the car sound more aggressive...id pick almost any aftermarket exhaust with a drone before i would go back to "stock sound"
i say, aftermarket over stock...live with the drone
but like i said...i like it loud

I had borla stingers on and put the stock system back on in a matter of two weeks - the drone was driving me nuts.
now I'm in the market for a magnaflow setup, as I hear it has a deep rumble but not too loud.

I assume you have an auto.. I've had Borla Stingers(07) and now B & B Rt 66's both manual cars. You can easily shift out of it if it bothers you. Personally I would NEVER go back to stock. Not only for the sound but those teeny weeny tips on the stockers !! hahahaha
Had the flows myself for a while. The drone was tolerable for a while but then I added a set of headers and it got really bad. You can do several things to help yourself out.
1. Get rid of the flows and get some corsa sports (awesome exhuast)
2. Go to a higher gear ratio like a 3.15 or 3.42 and when you cruise you will be out of that rpm range and bye bye drone.
