I know this has been asked before, but I haven't seen a good answer yet...or maybe I simply can't accept the truth.
I understand you need a CAN scanner, and there are several reasonable options out there. The local Autozone scanner just covered PCM codes.
My question is if anything outside a Tech2 can read the BCM/TCS/RFA/etc codes? I find myself working on these cars plenty, but it's hard to budget $2k+ for a tech 2 to read codes you could read easily for free on a C5.
I know this response isn't any help, but I don't want you to think nobody cares.
I have looked and looked, but can't find anything out there to read anything but "P" codes. That's what I liked about the C5's, but I guess a lot of people were running to the dealer about every code they found.
Sometimes too much information can be a bad thing, In the hands of the wrong people.
Could the extra codes somehow be proprietary? I'm assuming the real issue is that a "CAN scanner" only needs to be able to read XYZ, and nobody does more.

Check out the following including the GM specific option:
This is the best I've seen so far short of a Tech-2. I've used a friend's once and tried it out on my 2004 Buick Rainier. From my quick "test drive" of the package, it scans the car and finds all subsystems and then you can basically look at and/or actuate nearly anything you want.

It looks good but $500 with the GM upgrade is a little pricey.
my diablo sport predator can read codes, make changes, install/remove, the tunes they give you or any "custom tune" you have! for $300.00 it is a great tool!!! I don't care what the people say that don't have one! OH! and did I forget data logging.....
What I would like a Tech 2 type device for is to turn on/off features and do stuff that I don't think you can do with HPTuners.
I'd like to be able to open the ABS valves when doing a brake system flush to get new fluid into the ABS circuits. I'd like to be able to do a crank relearn if necessary. If you swap radios you need to VIN match the new one or it won't work. If you remove your F55 shocks for coilovers, or many other such things, you need to have a Tech 2 to tell the BCM what you have or don't have. That's what I would like a Tech 2 type unit for.
Whether the Autoenginuity can do those things or not is what I'd be interested in knowing.
TIA to anybody who can report on that kind of info.

HP Tuners will do a crank relearn. I agree on the rest of it. It has been discussed on the HP Tuner forum and "taken into consideration". It should also do tire pressure sensor relearn.
I hate to open a can of worms here, but I've had a Diablo Sport Tuner, Model U7194 for three years, and for what it does I'm satisfied with it, because I knew what I was buying.
But there is no way that thing will display any codes except powertrain, and as far as data logging goes this particular model has had a bug since it was introduced. It won't allow you to log for more than 90 seconds. their other models do. I gave up, 2 years ago, asking when it would be fixed.
