Define "bolt on's"

Define "bolt on's"
okay this may seem silly but does "bolt on's" mean different things to different people. when i see a post or a video and it states this is an LS3 with "bolt on's" i always have to wonder what that means. (if they do not specify of course)
my first thoughts go to;
CAI, Exhaust and Tune which a lot of guys also call a stage one package. Then i think of gears. However i guess this would also include an Intake,, Ported Throttle Body, Underdrive Pulley and so on.
does "bolt on's" literally mean any external engine part? can ported heads be bolt on's?

To me it means anything you don't have to open up the motor to do. So a cam, rockers, pistons, heads would not be bolt ons. Cold air intake, headers, supercharger 
, nitrous (some will debate this one) and maybe even an intake manifold and underdrive pulley count as bolt ons.

Typically mods are split 3 ways.
Boltons (intake, headers, pulleys, gears, converter, etc...)
Internals (heads, cam, rockers, stroked crank, etc...)
Power adders (super/turbocharger and nitrous)
A lot of people also run "Cam Only" which means full boltons and Cam + Necessary internals for that cam (springs, retainers, pushrods, lifters)

There are some discrepancies over exactly what "bolt-ons" means but most agree on external mods only, excluding FI or N2O. Yes I know you can bolt-on a supercharger, you can bolt-on a N2O bottle, etc. But they are self contained power adders so they do not count as bolt-ons. Basically bolt-ons relates to CAI, intake, TB, pulley, exhaust, t-stat, tune. Then we get into gears and torque converters. These are still considered bolt-ons however the concept has been scrutinized by many. Typically anything that doesn't touch oil or is inside the engine is considered bolt-on. Hence why gears/converters are highly debated. You really don't need to worry about it unless you intend to compete in a certain class, in which case you will have to follow the rules set out by those that have come before us.

These basic parameters were established LONG before the C6 was even released so it is only fair that the integrity of these "rules" be honored/maintained by C6 owners as well.

Our original format and rules were changed approximately one year after we established the C6 list. The co founder of the LS1 forum changed our format and rules to what we have today.
In the later part of 2007 we dropped the Z06 list, formed a board to adopt new requirements and added the requirement for time slips
