I am considering putting the stock NPP exhaust mufflers and an aftermarket control system on my 2006 cooupe. But I have one concern I hope can be answered by someone knowledgeble on the subject. As I understand, on the stock NPP system, one flap on each muffler stays shut until a certain rpm is reached at which time these open, which results in a total of four openings for the exhaust. Also, if an aftermarket control system is used, the two flaps can be opened at any rpm for a total of four openings for better sound. But what about going the other way? For example, what if the driver wants the sysem closed in order to be in the "quiet mode" and then runs the engine up to a high rpm at WOT? Would this result in any harmful backpressure or lack of power due to there being only two outlets for the exhaust?
GM says the NPP system when open at full power gives you 6 HP additional over the stock system. There will be no harmful back pressure with the system closed and you'll lose 6 HP. Nothing to worry about.

Let me see if I can clarify this for you. While the stock NPP system will control the flaps (unless the fuse is pulled) your 2006 will not be able to do this. The only way to control the flaps would be with a after market system (NPP in a box from pipedreams or the Sunsetorange creations system). The stock system actually Y's into 2 tips where the NPP system uses 2 seperate pipes into each of the 2 tips. The exhaust will take the path of least resistance, depending on weather the flaps are open or not. So with the flaps closed it will act simply as the stock system and force the exhaust out the other side. So your question, in the quiet mode (with the engine at WOT) is simply like the stock system which is like the majority of exhausts running today and they are running WOT without any issues. They are actually going thru the one pipe that Y's into the twin tips.
DSOMvette, Do I understand you corectly that my stock 2006 system actually has only on exit pipe from the muffler which splits into two splits, (for looks I asssume)?
