Default Weight Savings: Adding it up?

I dug around for awhile trying to find some solid numbers for weight savings with typical bolt-ons that are common of modified C6s - to no avail.

A lot of us are running lighter headers, x-pipes, cat-backs, and wheels. These are pretty common bolt-ons that in theory should be good for a pretty fair reduction.

Anybody put in the leg work yet to figure out what their theoretical weight savings is? I went from a stock exhaust to ARH 1 7/8"s LTs, 3" catless X, and SLP Loudmouth. I hear claims of the cat-backs being worth 15-25lbs depending on which brand / how agressive. My car runs a Spec 3+ w/ Aluminum Flywheel as well, and 4 18x11" CCW Classics (3 pc).

I'm just curious about where I should be, considering the car weighs something like 3240lb, stock (M6 F55 coupe).

Recently I installed CCW C10 wheels and Toyo R888 tires. 18X10.5 fronts with 295/30/18s and 18X13 rears with 335/30/18s. The tires are exactly 5 sizes wider than the stock tires they replaced (245/40 and 285/35). The wheels are 2 inches (front) and 3 inches (rear) wider than the stock wheels. I also installed some lightweight lug nuts. Total weight savings was 13.25 pounds. I was hoping to just break even on the weight, so saving weight is a nice bonus.

I also saved 16.6 pounds with a lightweight battery (Deka ETX18L). I was calibrating the TPMS sensors yesterday and left the car in accessory mode accidentally for 15 minutes with the radio on and my GPS unit charging. I thought maybe that would be an issue but the car started right up.

So, 29.85 pounds shaved off so far. I have a 4-wheel StopTech kit coming soon and suspension and sway bars to go on as well and I'll report the weight differences as soon as I get the new stuff on and the old stuff off and weighed.

Weight is determined with a full tank of gas. If that was your weight with a full tank of gas some Z06 guys are jealous.

i weighed my car in my race setup at an official CAT scale...2007 C6 1LT...my mods are in my profile...my race setup includes everything in my profile with 1/8 gas, no pass seat, kirkey race seat for driver side, gto spare wheels for the front with m&h bias ply front runners, c5z wheels out back with mt et street bias plys, and my new 6pt roll bar and harness...

my car weighed in at 2960 and i have a CAT scale cert to verify it...i even had 2 buddies there with me...i weigh about 170...so with me in the car it all weighs about 3130 in my race setup...before i put the roll bar in and with my old zr1 rear wheels my car weighed 2920 in race setup...by adding the roll bar and saving weight with the c5z wheels, i only went up 40lbs...

best thing for you to do is find a trucker scale to go weigh on...that way you know your true weight without having to guess

Sorry brother but since I purchased the car in 2007, I've been deployed overseas for all but 7 months of my ownership of it. Couple that with performing about $12k worth of modifications in the rare time I have at home (not to mention trying to drive and enjoy the car), and things like finding truck scales to go weigh in on take a backseat.

If I wasn't sitting in Iraq right now, I'd be in the driveway dismantling it and hauling parts off to the bathroom scale to find out... but bench-racing it from a computer to keep in good spirits has to suffice.

Awesome response. I'm running 295's up front too, and had a little rubbing issue with the 11" wide wheels. A 3/8" spacer cleared that right up. I assumed I was the only one that was going that wide under non-Z fenders. Are those 335's stuffed under non-Z quarters as well?

Regarding the battery, I've got the world's most electronically reliable Corvette... the 2005. Right... The DBS eats through Optimas already, so a Braille battery or the like would be snuffed out in probably less than 24 hours.

I noticed you got rid of the passenger seat and went with a race seat for yourself. That right there I would assume is the majority of your weight savings. Apparently our seats weigh something heinous, like 70lbs or so? I long to ditch my grandpa full-power, heated boat anchors, but I'm not sure the BCM will dig the lack of Airbags.

Anyone specifically account for the savings of swapping the stock exhaust for one of the Long Tube / decat X / open catback combos?

Z51 rotor's are very heavy, if you have those. There was been a couple of posts comparing to Baer +2's. Major weight savings, unsprung as well & rotating.

Hey "Oldmansan" by chance would you have a photo of those 295's on the front of your car? I really have myself backed into a corner as I have 19" front rims (not smart I know) there are R888 in a 295 X 19 available, I'm just concerned about the fit

No, my 335s are under Z06 rear quarter panels. ttrotary is running the same tire on CCWs in the rear. 18 or 19X11.5 I believe.

Stay safe over there and thanks for your service. I'm retired Air Force myself.

I agree with the rotor comment. Two-piece rotors will save some weight.

Very nice & Tx's that helps.

Your cheating in the rear, you must have serious traction with that combo.

The wheels and tires really changed the ride. The suspension and sway bars will go on in about a month as I'm going to install StopTechs all the way around first. I'll post pics as I go and weights as well.

Good call on the rotors, I hadn't taken those into consideration. I havent made the Z51 switch, as the stock F55 braking is fine for my usage, so far. I have a trip to the Nurburgring planned when I get home though, so I will definitely look elsewhere when (not if) I make an upgrade.

Right on. I've given up on the idea of the Z booty for the fact that getting a painted setup shipped to the UK without damage is absurdly expensive, if even possible at all. My plan now consists of the simple Specter Werkes group 6 rear arch flares and cutting the stock fenders.

And thanks to you as well... gotta give it to the guys who pave the way. Air Force here, too... and also from CA. Haha.

How about running turndowns after the X pipe instead of axle back exhaust.

Z06 aluminum engine cradle saves some weight.
