Thing about this cam is a few extra's are needed, like gears and/or a bump in compression ratio. All my gains were on the high end. The cam replaced my stock cam with 1.85 rockers so I lost a bit of torque in the low end. A ported FAST might help a little bit in the 4000+ range.

was the 40 rwhp pickup just the cam or the combination of parts. those are nice numbers. thats the thing with cams is to figure out where on the rpm curve you want your power. very nice.

There is no need for a real big cam, unless you want to shift your power band up into the higher rpm range. If you want the lope, but not necessarily the loss of low end torque that accompanies typical big cams, there are options. A 0* overlap cam (at .05) is good enough for lope at a 700 - 750 rpm idle.

The Hotcam as suggested above would do the trick. The classic 224/224 112 will lope at a low idle speed. A 224/220 111 111 would give the car old school big block torque to go along with the lope as would a 218/224 111 113.

I love the top end gain but I'm dissapointed in the low end loss. May have been less if I was comparing it just the stock cam/rockers vs stock cam/1.85 rockers. Later on, I am planning gears and heads with a bump in compression ratio. If keeping the stock gears and heads, I would go with a different cam. The 40rwhp was a before and after with all the other mods already in place. I replaced the springs with Patriot Gold and the 1.85 rockers with 1.7 rockers. I used the yello/gold Harland Sharp 1.7 rockers with the roller tip however.

I agree. I really didn't know how far right my cam would take the curve. If you go with a cam like mine, I would at a minimum bump the compression ratio to help with the low end.
