Default C5 rearend in a C6??

Took my car to get the new clutch put in today. Very excited to feel the Mosnter stage 3 and the chromoly flywheel. Anyhow the tech is cool as all get out and offers to put a hardened output shaft in at no charge for labor. I called around and researched and have come to find on the 05 its the housing not the shafts that are the problem. The shafts are the secondary problem.

Ive seen a few guys on here that have replaced with a c5 rearend but cant find any how to or good info on the subject. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Also I read something about replacing driveshaft bushings or something while doing the clutch? Anyone?

Thanks guys!

Yep. My Cartek adaptor bracket is working great. C5 rears are about 50% cheaper than c6's.

Here's what happens to 05 rear ends....mine happened after 301 drag strip launches. I thought I was gonna beat the odds but fate caught up with me.

Oh and it took out the transmission mainshaft too...that was a pricey break.

I would upgrade to ZO6 stuff. I don't know what is involved. I just swapped everything with my last build. I bet Ed at B&P has my old Cartek C5rear sitting on his floor. You could probably get a good deal? ? it has 4.10's

The words inexpensive and rear replacement don't quite go in the same sentence when discussing late model Corvettes.

I too would probably go with the latest C6 Z06 rear (or better yet, C6 ZR1 rear) conversion if money was no object.

Dennis, you should make an offer on that, 4.10s in an A4 is a little bit much but then your car could maybe sixty foot in the 1.3s!

Now that's interesting, I'm moving parts from my A4/2000 C5 (LS3, etc) to my M6/2005 C6. So the C5 diff is a direct bolt-in?

Do yourself a favor, sell the C6 rear before you turn it into to this.

Save yourself the $1k or so your rear is worth.

I exchanged PMs with Spinmonster, the mount is the issue which requires welding a new lower tab to the crossmember and fabricating a new trans mount. Besides that looks like it'll bolt up to the trans. Cool, I can send my C5 diff out for beefing up while I drive around in the C6, looks like a $1,400 difference in price. Next I have to consider what the trans brace would look like with a C6 trans and C5 diff...

Yes they have to weld a bracket and make a few mods...but it fits OK. the bracket is bolted to the car with two 10mm bolts....doesn't look very strong, but I run my car hard and it held up.

I had the c6 brace on my car when I blew the rear, and my trans mainshaft bent causing me to have to replace the trans. That is an expensive proposition.

The c6 brace has only 2 bars. The c5 brace has 4 bars, and several of my buddies have blown their c5 rears and have NOT had to replace their trans, so I think the c5 is a much better design.

I have not put on the c5 brace yet..I have stopped launching hard instead. I cannot afford another $6k aw $h!t...so those records in my sig will stay that way for a while.
