I just installed Hawk hp pad on my car. I have always heard a noise hard to describe when SLOWLY letting off the brake. Im sure some of you guys know what noise im talking about.
The brakes are stopping great but I now am hearing the same noise described above EVERY time the car come to a dead stop! No other time does it make noise.
I bedded them only slightly due to heavy rain. I used plenty of that grease that it brings on the back of the pads.
OK, here goes. The sounds is like rubbing on an inflated balloon. It does this right AT the dead stop line. Its just like the sound the OE brakes make when you are about to get movin out of the drive way and SLOWLY EASE off the brake peddal. Its an auto.
HP Plus pads will scream like crazy when gently applied, but they stop very well when you put your foot into it
That was my experience with Hawk HP+ pads too. I must say I'm not a fan of Hawk pads. I didn't like the dust they make because its hard to remove. I think all race type pads will squeal some when used on the street, so I don't think you can expect them to be absolutely quiet. I think there are better pads out there.
They are not the PLUS pads, I read on the box and was told by the vendor that they make no noise. Im not a pro but only I changed only the pads. I have had to drive the car around and it was raining. I have tried to brake hard a couple of times durring a dry hour or so to bed them but I still hear it.
From what I've read you just need to make a couple of hard stops and walah. Is it too late to bed them in??
Hawk makes HPS and HP Plus pads. They don't make just a straight "HP" pad according to their web site (http://www.hawkperformance.com/performance). If you have HPS pads, they shouldn't squeal on the street. You should be able to bed them in still. If you have HP+, they will squeal no matter what you do in my experience.

Per Hawk's website.
1. After reaching medium speed engage brake pedal to slow car without coming to a complete stop. Release pedal quickly and do not drag brakes. Repeat four or five times.
2. At higher speeds engage brake pedal to slow car without coming to a complete stop. Release pedal quickly and do not drag brakes. Repeat five times.
3. At or near race speed engage brake pedal to slow car without coming to a complete stop. Release pedal quickly and do not drag brakes. Repeat three times. Allow a few seconds between brake engagements while car is in motion.
4. Do not hold brake pedal. Park car for approximately 20 minutes or until brake rotors are completely cool to the touch.
5. If during the above steps the brake pedal becomes soft or brake fade is noticed, park the car immediately for approximately 20 minutes. Do not hold brake pedal.
I noted my squealing problem with HP Plus pads in another thread. I had the pads installed by a corvette shop, I did not do them myself, the squeal was so bad I could not leave them in, when I took them out I saw that the shop put them in "dry", no grease, I installed the OEM pads back and no noise again, last week I decided to put the HP Plus back in, asked Hawk to send me more grease, I guess the shop decided that the grease supplied with the pads was not needed, installed with the grease and now have silent HP Plus in the car. Lots of dust, Knew that going in, car stops great, also have stainless lines and DOT 4 fluid.
I have the HPS pads not the PLUS. I heard those make noise. Happy to hear you managed to get the pluses on without squeal. I used plenty of grease on the back. the pink grease it came with.

Do I need new rotors?
No, but you might need to clean your rotors and start over with the bedding. Since you changed only pads you may still have a layer of the previous pad material on the rotors and it could be causing the issue. Bedding in the pads is to get a layer of the pad material stuck to the rotors. Not sure what the recommended procedure is for cleaning off the rotors these days (sanding, brake cleaner, both, etc) but some searching should turn it up.
