Default TPMS Trigger Re-Learn Issues

Aloha fellas, me again.....

I had some issues with my car listing the left front, and right rear tire pressure being low.

I went to Tire Rack, and purchased a ATEQ VT10 TPMS Trigger, and followed the Re-Learn instructions to the "T". I got it into accessory mode, the horn honked, but when I apply the VT10 to the sidewall of the tire & hold the button down, the horn doesn't honk acknowledging that the tire is "registered".

Does anyone have any experience with these, an I doing something wrong?

Am I able to disable the tire sensors?

Thanks in advance!

Keith

I just bought my VT10 from tire rack. I hadn't used it yet but just went to the garage and followed the link below. Not the same tool but it works. I used the left button on the VT10. I placed it at the rubber on the tire next to the tire stem. I pressed and held the left button until the car chirped (took anywhere from 5 - 10 seconds holding the button at each tire). You should get a yellow TX light on the VT10 when pushing the left button.

No, you can not disable the sensors. Good luck.

My 08 doesn't work with the 08 relearn instruction's.
Had a time till we figured out to use the instructions from the 07's.
Just had mine done. I have lifetime TPMS service from Les Schawb.
$20.95
Cheaper than buying the tool!

Thanks guys.

I will make a 6th attempt at this, and then I'll just take it to the dealer for new sensors & a tire change.... Sounds expensive!

I use a different make TPMS tool so I know nothing about the ATEQ tool. Are your wheels and tires OEM? Certain kinds of after market wheels/tires have to mount or band the sensors in a different location (not by the valve stem). If so, maybe you're not reaching the sensor with the TPMS tool...their signal can only penetrate so far.

!
It may be cheaper in the short term but it doesn't sound all that convenient. I guess it depends on how often you need to have it done. FYI, most Discount Tire stores will reset your TPS's free of charge.

I have to put the antena tip straight kissing the valve stem cap for it to work on our 08. Won't work anywhere else on the tire/rim.

Discount does mine for free also. I know what you mean as far as the aftermarket wheels. My HRE's mount the TPMS in the whee with the bands and they are tougher to do!

He might try jacking and go though the tread of the tire vs the side wall if he has aftermaket wheeels!

I have after market Chrome GFG's. I tried putting the antenna right up against the valve stem of the front, but nothing. I know that they have long chrome tubes leading from the stems to the tire, particularly the rears. I'll keep trying, and let you guys know whats happening.

Maybe like rockinblue said, maybe I'll have to jack up the wheels & go through the tread. What a P.I.T.A. that would be, but if it works....I'll do it.

Thanks for the input guys!

Keith

Keith,

This probably doesn't help, but at least it's a TTT for you...

My TPMS tool has two buttons "Test" and "Select" (it's not the model you have). I have to use the test button to get it to recognize the TPMS sensors (which is contrary to what the instructions tell me to do!!) and register them with the car.

Also, make sure you are starting with the driver's side front wheel. Oh, and hold the TPMS tool on the wheel where the schrader valve is! Hope this helps!

Two more things you might try. Try a new battery. Also, after putting the car in accessory mode you are pushing the down the lock and unlock simultaneously until the car honks?

Yup, the car is in accessory mode, and I will try a new battery this weekend when I have time to mess with it....

Thanks again!
