I've read about this problem going back to 98. My c6 has it intermittently now; out of warranty of course.
Problem is when you push the silver lever down to shift out of Park, it won't go all the way down and therefore won't shift out of Park. Feels like it's pushing into rubber. It happens about twice a week and it will finally work after about ten to 20 pushes. After searching this topic I find that the problem is usually the Brake Transmission Shift Control Solenoid....
Some guys find success by just unplugging it.....some say the Dealer
makes you buy the whole assy for almost $400. The solenoid itself is
about $50. I also remember somebody saying their was a service bulletin on this.
Anybody have anything to add before I take it in?
Is there any new knowledge on this problem?
I am not mechanically inclined so I have to be at the mercy of the techs
I had this problem on my '06 while still under warranty. The mechanic who worked on my car said the problem was a micro switch but since it was under warranty they just replaced the assembly.
Before I took it to the dealer I learned that a sharp slap (not the crushing blow I wanted to do) would release it.

If you haven't done so already Check down at the brake pedal and switch, there is a nylon rod that engages/un-engages the switch that also releases the shifter. See if it's worn or jamming. It's normally a smooth operation but I actually had mine fall off the pin awhile back and of course the shifter wouldn't disengage until I put it back on. No problems since.
Took mine to the Dealer today.....he says the shifter assy is worn out.
Can't just replace the solonoid as it's assy only....265 for the part and
4 hours labor.....I balked and said I'll think about it....they called again and said they'd pay for the part but it would cost me over 400 for labor.
What's a mother to do? on another thread some guy said just unplug the brake-tran solonoid.....
