Default how to clean LPE filter

I was curious if anyone knows the best way to remove the LPE filter from the car to clean it; the car is an 07 C6. I have read online the filter is a PITA to clean.

Any how-to's would be appreciated.

Thanks.

It is a PITA. You have to remove the push pins holding the airbox to the radiator shroud from underneath the car, then remove the airbox/filter/snorkel from the top. Then you can remove and clean the filter and re-install everything in the reverse order of removal.

Changing (cleaning) the filter in the LPE high-flow intake is not as easy as replacing a conventional air filter in most cars but it's hardly a major operation either. You do have to raise the nose of the car a bit to remove the push pins around the airbox and other than loosening a band clamp or two, pulling a plug and finessing the airbox/filter out that's about it. Once you do it you'll discover how easy it is.

Download the "airbox installation instructions" from the LPE web site and it contains the information showing you how to install/remove the airbox and filter. There should be a couple applicable downloads related to the intake and filter. If you can't find it PM me and I'll send you a copy.

You should buy the filter cleaning kit (from LPE) so you have the cleaning solvent and the oil to re-oil the filter. I think it's a good idea to have 2 or more filters so you always have a clean one ready to install.

Is this one of those aftermarket air intake filter systems that is suppose to give your car more power via cold air/ram air but really doesn't work just makes life harder when you have to clean the filter vs. throw it away?

Cold air yes.... ram air no.
It works as advertised and looks OEM.

Isn't it the same thing? You want to get colder air into the engine. Now those intakes usually a K & N type cone filter I see in Mustangs engine compartment don't get the cold air. But something like those double K & N filters up front in the Corvette nose does get cold air rammed into it. The thing about the ram air that's lower to the ground is it gets all the dirty stuff, leaves and garbage vs. if you had a ram air set up in the hood area or cowl induction type.

Put a manometer on the "ram air" brands and you will likely find no ram air. However colder air is always good for more power. All ram air brands are cold air due to how ram air intakes are designed. Not all cold air intakes are ram air though.

Thanks for all your replies. In regards to removing the pins from the radiator shroud, what is the best tool to use?

I looked on the LPE website, but didnt really get the information I needed.

Thanks.
