Default 230 + duration cam guys......

How is your drivability? Low end power? Mid range power? Idle etc? Im considering a larger cam than the one I have now and just want to know a little more specifics.

Thanks for the help.

What about power under the curve? How is your torque in the lower rpm's? Where did you get your cam and which one is it and who did the tuning?

232/234 here. Driveability is somewhat compromised and "feathering" of the clutch is necessary in low speed turns and bumper-to-bumper traffic.

cruising at 2000 rpm is like stock.

mid range to top end boasts significant power gains though lower rpms don't suffer.

it's in my 489ci big block 69 camaro. Because of the cubes, it isn't as "bad" as what you think...I mean I still have some vac at idle in neutral...like 5.5"
The whole cam specs out at 314/320 269/274 (not 276 oops), shy of 700 lift on a 110 lobe, 108icl. It's a billet solid roller, it's an older Lunati grind which is easy on parts...still need 270/680lb springs but, the ramps are not too aggressive so things stay were they are supposed too

Same results here, 232/232 .595, 114 lsa. A lot of bucking under 1500 rpm , not so much in first but a lot in all the other gears. Performance didn't change below 3000 rpm, torque picks up at 3000 (330) and peaks at 5000-5500(405). At 3000 hp is at 200, 4000 300, 5200 400 and peaks at 450 at 6500. At about 4500 is when it really screams. Adding 390 gears helped plenty for that 850-3000 rpm range. No hp gain but it sure gets to 3000 a lot quicker. Actually with the gears, I find myself hitting the rev limiter every so ofter. 7000 rpm's cames fast in first gear.

Cartek 3X cam. Dyno tuning was done at Cartek. Car has plenty of power for a cam only with bolt ons.

Here is the graph, correction SAE 1.00

240 here, .608, 112+3.

Car idles from a cold start at 750rpm, no prob. Out of a few hundred hot starts, it's died on me maybe two or three times. Never bothered to raise the idle, even though another 100rpm would completely fix that.

Lugging the car around town at anything under 1500 and you'll get some surging. At about 1600, smart throttle application completely eliminates this.

I lose maybe 15 lb/ft under the curve between 2k and 4k rpms to guys with smaller cams, but pick up about 15-20 rwhp at peak over them. I don't start tapering off until after 6500, and even at 7k it's only 6-8hp off of it's peak measurement.

Car made 420rwhp through a stock mufflers, TB, and manifold. Only mods were a Vararam, the cam/valvetrain, and ARH long tubes. Tune was conservative with a flat, rich AFR. I haven't put it back on the dyno since the ported FAST and SLP Loudmouth 1. I imagine it's up around 450rwhp with a bit leaner tune.

232/236 here. Some surging at really low rpm/no throttle but easy to drive around. I have driven it in football game traffic with no problems.

Thanks guys! The dyno sheets are very helpful too! I love to see where the power range for these cams are its going to make deciding a whole lot easier.

The extra cubes of your car produce a nice curve.

Very similar to my cam, a 230/236. I've got a 6 speed there is some feathering the clutch at low rpm, around 1500 depending the speed of the car. Otherwise, drives great.

Now I lost about 25ft-lbs of torque in the low rpm range but I replaced a stock cam with 1.85 aftermarket rockers. A bump in compression ratio would have helped some...with gears being the best choice. My mid range is about the same as before with big, big gains on the top end. I certainly might change some of the big top gains for low to mid range torque.
