Default Transmission Problems?? Strange

Before you all tell me to take my car to the dealer, I plan on doing that. Please give me your best answer as to what you think this could be.......

So, my transmission seems to be slipping into first gear (or second??) when I am coming to a stop or slowing down (very low speeds) to make a turn at a traffic light, intersection, etc.... Oddly as it seems it does this the most when I am turning. I can feel the transmission clunk or pop into a lower gear. I have not noticed this before. What can this be? It is a 2008 A6 Transmission. No aftermarket tunes.

Thanks

My 08 A6 had all of the symptoms associated with PIP-4395. It would often bang on down shifts especially in slow traffic. It would also slip on the 2-3 and hunt on the 3-4 in both Drive and Sport. I had the TSB done last week and I am happy to report that the TSB solved all of my shifting issues. The tranny no longer bangs and hunts. The 2-3 shift is crisp and firm. Here are the parts that were used for those of you who might be out of warranty:

Quantity Part# Description
3 24238238 Ring 4.189
1 24224577 Seal 4.226
1 24236927 Seal Kit 4.005
3 88861045 Fluid

Below is the complete description of the TSB:
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
Some customers may comment on a flare or harsh 2-3 shift.

Recommendation/Instructions:
This condition may be caused by leaking 1-2-3-4 and 3-5-R clutch fluid seal rings (230). The following conditions are indications that the fluid seal rings may be leaking:

• Delayed/extended or delayed with harsh feel initial Park to Drive and/or Reverse to Drive shifts, that are more likely to occur when the transmission temperature is below approximately 40 degree C (104 degree F).

• Harsh or flaring 2-3 shifts that are more likely to occur when the transmission fluid temperature is in the approximately 0 degree C (32 degree F) to 40 degree C (104 degree F) temperature range, but can be present at any temperature.

• Harsh 2-3 shifts that are more likely to occur at less than 50% tp.

Vehicles built in the January through August, 2007 time frame are more likely to have leaking fluid seal rings

Important: When inspecting the 1-2-3-4 and 3-5-R clutch fluid seal rings (230) there probably will not be visible signs that the seal rings are damaged.

If any of the conditions above describe the flare/harsh 2-3 shift condition replace the 1-2-3-4 and 3-5-R clutch fluid seal rings (230), DO NOT replace the valve body or TCM.

I think SnakeSlayer is 100% correct.

I have the same issues and I'm going to go in for this too. I may have to argue the point with them since they keep saying "its normal", which is . The first thing you can do is have them make sure you have the most recent updates in the computer. If you already have them, then the major surgery described by SnakeSlayer may be your only remedy.

As soon as I get a few days when I can do without the car, I'm going for it. I absolutely hate the way this tranny shifts.
