OK sorry to start another warrantee thread, but I don't recall seeing this question icoming up in here. I'm fully aware and read all the threads regarding tunes and telltale signs etc etc.
But what about the predator...since it has the ability to put back the original tune, does the same telltale-sign issue apply?
depends what dealerships you go to. I have some experience with HP Tuners and I know that several dealerships I have been to in Houston, TX do not have the capability to detect a change in the tune.
Where have you heard that dealerships can detect that a OEM tune has been reflashed to the ECM after it has had a moded tune? What equip do they use to determine this and what do they look for?
some dealships don't care. it all goes back too... GM has to prove your mod caused the problem
Gm has said IN WRITING that a tune will void your warranty....when they detect a tune they are not going to go any further to prove one way or the other that the tune had anything to do with whatever damage one may have.
You can stand in the service area screaming Moss Magnusson all ya want but it ain't gonna change one thing. And the MM act was instituted so we couldn't be held hostage by GM to replace starters, alternators, etc. with only genuine GM parts. Not so we could add tunes, headers and whatnot then expect to have the car repaired under warranty.
Bottom line.....when we do things that they have already stated is verboten their obligation is over....at least until we decide to go to the time & expense to take them to court. And they have a team of lawyers I'd bet that are well versed on any excuse/angle we may think we have.
Both my local GMC and Chevy dealer told me to return my cars to the stock tune if I have a problem. This is a situation that's handled differently everywhere.
I just had my 2008 in for the rear diff oil change and asked the service advisor about this. He was not real comfortable answering my question, but he basically told me that they try to look the other way UNLESS the tune caused the problem. Basically, I get the feeling that if you changed the a/f ratio and toasted a piston they would disallow the repair.
However, if your door window switch went bad they do not care about the tune.
He told me that the diesel guys are the ones who really brought this issue into the spotlight. He said that they had instances of guys tuning them and breaking stuff and he had no choice in zapping the coverage.
