243 heads are some of the best around, don't mess with them until you've done all the other work, porting the heads on a stock motor won't do much except take your money
Probably a better idea is to swap for the new rectangle port LS3/L76 head. It is a newer design and flows quite well out of the box. The best part is they are priced extremely low because they are also using this head on the truck motors. Last time I checked, Scoggin Dickey had bare heads for $249 each. They also sell them complete with high lift springs.
You will also need 8 offset rockers and the matching intake (going from cathedral ports to rectangle ports). Both are priced relatively low.

Hope this is not a dimb question but here it goes, Will these work for a
LS 2 and what kind of performance gain would I see?

Last weekend I took a trip to West Coast Corvettes and had the opportunity to visit a company next door that specializes in supercharger technology. Their supercharger fits under the hood of an LS3, but not an LS2. Why, the heads. The LS3 heads are far more efficient by design and add 30+ HP to the LS2. When I asked local engine builders the same question, I got the same answer.

So the question still remains, Will LS-3 head fit on a LS-2 motor and what mods need to be made to make them work?
