Default dash differences

I need to replace the dash in my 2005 coupe. I have been at the local stealership and they are telling me that the '05 is a one year only dash for some reason and all colors are discontinued cept for gray. Mine is black and I really dont want to have to paint a gray one.

The parts man says '06 and '07 dashes are available in all colors but it is a different part number than the '05 and he has no idea what the difference(s) may be. Anybody familiar with this? Thanks.............

Dash? Are you talking about the dash or just the radio/shifter facia?

The stock radio facia is light grey in '05, darker grey in '06 & '07 and then fake carbon fiber in '08 & '09. Many aftermarket sellers of body color radio facias, choose a vendor.

I am talking about the whole dash, not the fascia. I did some digging today but I still haven't determined if the 06-07 dash will fit in the 05 car. Some of the online salvage locaters give you 06-08 items when you search for 05, so maybe they are interchangeable?

Well since you are replacing it, you may want to look at DSVette and get a leather dash.

I sold an 07 dash to a guy with an 05 and never heard any complaints about not fitting. My Mitchell Guide doesn't list 05 as a separate unit or stock number but don't rely on me 100%.

Best check with the dealer or Gene with Parts House to make sure.

I don't see why it wouldn't fit. The mounting points are all the same. I would say the only difference is the outside styling of the dash.

Why are you replacing your dash? If it's because of it being damaged by the sun then you might want to think about getting it reupholstered. A guy i know bought a 06 with a not to attractive dash and just had it re-wrapped in "real" leather w/ two-tone colors.

Just a thought.

There was a point where Chevy changed the airbag module and yaw sensor mounting stud locations on the dash assembly. I don't know when they did it, but it could be after the '05 model which would cause the part number change.

True...the passenger side airbag is disabled via a key (in the glove box) in 2005 models but they went to a weight sensitive/sensor under the seat itself from 2006 forward. Not sure if that could be the reason for the claimed differences or not though.

I am referring to the module that controls the airbag system and the Active Handling yaw sensor which are mounted behind and under the head unit on the center stack of the dashboard. There was a person on the forum who installed the 4LT dash in his non 4LT car and he indicated the studs for the mounting of the module and sensor had to be modified on the later model 4LT dash.

Based on what you guys are saying and just plain 'ol common sense I really don't see there being any major differences. If I have to modify a mounting stud or bracket that's no biggie. I am not looking forward to this job either way......

I have an 05, and I bought a wrecked 06 to rob the drivetrain and the Z-51 suspension. There was no difference in the dash in the 06 compared to the 05, except for the airbag on/off, but that is on the glovebox door, not part of the dash.

I bought a dash off Ebay from an '07 model. Finally got around to installing it yesterday and as far as I could see it was 100% identical to the '05.

Also, I determined that the the only difference in the "colors" as far as ordering from GM is the color of the small piece to the right of the glove compartment (the piece that is secured with 3 rivets) I guess all C6 dashes are black? My factory dash had a decal on the metal framework that says "cashmere" and the replacement dash said "titatium" I just swapped the colored piece on the pass side and all was well.
