Default Wing or Rear spoiler

I'm definately NOT a ricer but I'm getting to like the rear wing look on the Z pics I've been viewing. I don't want to be a poser so is there any actual benefit to a wing on a street ZO6? I'm interested in the CF Street wing that LG has. Opinions please.

rear wing directs positive air flow down for downforce making the car "stick" to the ground while going on the track. IMO no benefit for street as in stop and go and freeway driving.

spoiler has very little positive air flow hit it so it doesnt make the car stick much

the stock spoiler is to help draft the exhaust dirt from the back of the car, not for racing.

If that's true it does a lousy job.

Of the two though, I would pick the small lip spoiler. I'm generally from the 'less is more' school of thinking when it comes to things like that.

I love the look of the wing, but as pointed out above, it has no real value on a street machine except that it makes our Vettes look like they're not street machines. The real issue I have with the stock "spoiler" is that ridiculous matchlite bulb for the third brake lite. If ANY changes are being made to the new models, I hope that putting a REAL third brake lite in with a 44 LED set-up as found in aftermarket units.

Actually, semi-bullsht and semi real-world effect.

The standard C6 coupe spoiler drafts dirt onto the back of the car like a magnet.
take a look after a one hour drive right after detailing the car.

Then switch to the same short length Z06 version and do the same thing.
80% less drafted dirt on your bumper.

That is the ONLY reason that some of us changed to the mini Z06 spoiler in 2006.

I actually have (or had) some "before and after" pictures of the amount of dirt from virtually identical drives.

Regardless, I was mostly blowing smoke (get it? LOL) on a boring afternoon, like so many posts here - LOL

Much more fun to do that than read the "personal attacks" about someone's poor grammar, or wasted bandwidth complaining about Democrats. Or Republicans. or (fill in the blank here).

I switched for the look, but I'm glad to know I got some real benefit out of it.

I was going to say the exact same thing. I'd hate to see what the back of my car would look like without it .

I have the Z06 spoiler on my C6 Z51 and I like it.
By the way a wing causes lift. A spoiler causes downforce.
You want a spoiler not a wing.

I like the looks of the wings that you are talking about, too. I'll probably do one, at some point.

I am not sure what speed at which they actually add enough down force to make a difference but I would do it for the looks only, so I wouldn't care, except to verify that it actually did add down force. I don't race, though. If I did, I would try to pick the best wing instead of the best-looking wing that worked reasonably well.

Less dirt after the switch, however, the Z-06 rear spoiler is a functional spoiler that adds 78lbs of down force to the rear at triple digit speeds. The exact speed I am not sure, but I remember reading a tech article on the Z-06 build and the reason GM raised the height of the rear spoiler..

Wrong. On a car they both create downforce.

I added the stock Z06 Spoiler / 3rd brake light housing to my car 05 Z51 this weekend, mostly just to give it a little meaner look. Easy swap

A spoiler (like the Z06 spoiler) does just like it's name implies, it spoils the air flow, thus making it turbulent and destroying lift. A wing, as referred to on cars, especially on race cars, is literally an upside down wing such as you find on a plane. A truly functional racing application wing will have an inverted airfoil shape. Next time you get a chance, check one out.
