Default Exhaust Sputter?

Okay, so installed the headers and exhaust and took it out. The kooks headers I installed have no cats going through x-pipe to borla stinger exhaust. While out I noticed that while down shifting/deceleration the exhaust sputters. I've never had an exhaust like this so I'm curious if the sputter is normal or if I should go back and re-check all the work that was done. Thank you.

Um. . .wow. . .didnt expect to hear crickets for days on this? Does that mean no one knows or is this a stupid question an no one wants to say anything? I'm taking it into the tune shop on tuesday to have it dyno'd and tuned so if no one knows I guess I'll find out then.

I'll offer. Did you have the car tuned? Most owners who do headers do so. Thats all I have. Someone else might offer better help.

Didnt read the entire second post. Drive it moderately till its tuned.

When you say "exhaust sputters" on downshifting and deceleration, are you referring to the popping and gurgling sound from the exhaust? If so, that is normal. This is usually caused from an overly rich mixture caused by headers and aftermarket mufflers. A tune will help.

If your engine is sputtering, that is not normal.

Okay, yeah it's coming from the exhaust for sure, and its the gurgle and popping your refering to, I thought it might be normal but I just have no way of knowing cause I've never had an exhaust do that. The car goes in for a tune on tuesday so that'll be good to go. Thankyou for letting me know, it does put my mind at ease for sure.

Thanks

assuming you have all your plug wires "snapped" on and the engine is running smooth you are just experiencing what the other poster mentioned, I believe you said you are running strait pipes meaning no cats so this is deff normal. Enjoy the headers and let us know how she runs after the tune! Congrats

Yes. The popping on decel is normal for the LSx engines. It's caused by the firing order. You CAN tune some of it out but it'll never go away completely.

Actually you can tune it out completely. When you go to get your tune, tell the tuner that you don't want the gurgling. All he has to do it modify the setting for DFCO so that it comes on earlier than normal. DFCO is Deceleration Fuel Cut Off. When you let off the gas, it shuts off all fueling and spark. Nothing flows through the motor but air until you get back on the gas.
