since the install of my cam i get a slight smell of gas from my car. it is mainly when the car first starts and if the npp baffles are open. also if i drive with the baffles open the whole time the center npp pipes are light brown when i get home. much less if i drive with them closed.
on the dyno the a/f was all in line, the plugs are a light brown, there is no smoke coming from exhaust and the car runs absolutely fantastic. what i am say is there is no indication that the tune is rich and i have zero complaints.
my question is simply whether or not this is common or normal when you are running a cam?
I have the exact same problem and people have commented on it when I drive away. I had it tuned twice and was told it was as good as it gets until all the sensors start sending information to the ECU and the engine settles down.
are you running strait pipes? usually this a downside for most if they opt to not run high flow cats..that was my experience with my 02 Z06
no, i am running high flow cats and again it is not bad. it is just that there is some gas smell and before there was none.
i have been looking while at car shows for vettes with a cam and noticed their tail pipes are darker also. in some cases black so i think this is probably common but wanted to hear from my forum buddies.

lets hear from you cam only guys...
tks, dal
How big a cam are you running? The more overlap you have, the more hydrocarbons you will get in the exhaust.

i have no idea cos i am running the Lg g6x1 and as you probably know, they do not give out cam specs.. however i would guess a fairly mild cam overall..
My cammed (etc.) C6 with NPP does the same. The stinky exhaust from a cam is common, from what I understand.
yes, keep in mind i am not complaining. i will take a little gas smell at idle for gobs of power any day of the week. just trying to see how common this is. now if my plugs were fouling i would be a little concerned but they are a nice toasty light brown.
I just got a cam installed as well. It is pretty normal for the smell. As for the tips, the inner NPP tips tend to get darker, faster than the outer ones. Mine are always shiny though thanks to some elbow grease
What kind of power did you make with the G6x1? I am also running a somewhat mild cam, made 460/430 with lg stret series headers, halltech, and a tune.

yeah i do the same thing. now i just have to wipe down the inner tips 4x more often than the outer tips but it is well worth it
my power looks like it is very close to yours. i am now making 472/437 thru 3.90 gears. with the cam and UD pulley i picked up 56hp and 29tq.
