Default Stainless Steel brake lines causing interference?

I read in a recent thread about SS brake lines causing harmful interference to wheel speed sensors affecting Active Handling.

Is this common?

The post the OP referring to was a request for help after installing stainless brake lines (the person requesting help was getting active handling warnings after installing stainless lines). He asked where to starting looking first and it was simply suggested that he start with the lines first.

Active handling codes CAN be a problem with some stainless lines installed on some cars. Nobody said it occurred with all cars and/or all lines.

Then you get bull $hit posts like yours as payment for trying to help someone. I have decided that this will be my last post on the Forum because it just isn't worth the crap you receive from people like you. Obviously, you never had a problem with your stainless lines and that ends the discussion.

From GM Techlink:

"Stainless Steel" Brake Hoses

Owners of some Corvettes have experienced Service ABS, Service Active Handling and Service Traction Control messages. Wheel speed sensor codes may be set. This condition may be caused by replacing the OEM rubber brake hoses with aftermarket stainless steel brake hoses.

It is believed that the metal in the brake lines conducts static electricity, causing confusion in the wheel speed sensors. The brake hoses must be returned to original rubber ones before the case can be investigated. This is a customer pay expense."

Dont let cmysix chase you away from here. He is constantly putting his foot in his mouth in every thread he posts in. He is reminded often but cant seem to figure out hes abrasive and a mild irritant around here yet the childish comments keep coming. The best course of action is to put these personality challenged cretins on your ignore list.

Default SS lines - Service ABS

I'm the guy that recently posted about installing SS lines on my 06 Z51. I was all prepared to pull them off this weekend, but stopped by Corvettes of Houston on the way home on Friday. I mentioned the tech bulletin and asked if they installed SS lines - they said they do this all the time and that they've never had any issues. I'm going to try to go by there on Wed of this week as they suggested putting a Tech2 tool on it and trying to see what's going on. As a reminder, after pulling and painting the calipers, installing new DBS Rotors and Goodrich SS lines, I started the car up and immediately received all three "Service" messages on the DIC - ABS, Traction Control and Active Handling.

Default Advice should be provided with care!

"A wise man is always open to new ideas and certainly admits he knows not everything. When providing advice or comments I am personally VERY careful how I word my response. I am FAR from a Vette God. Even as the leading mfg in my field of expertise I am careful NOT to insist on ANYTHING." I would feel very bad to provide advice that would lead to problems in anothers prized possession

Had a local shop put a Tech2 on it this afternoon. Left front speed sensor is what comes up. I suspect the wiring and will take a look this weekend and reply back.

Very interesting. You never know (or imagine) what will cause problems.

I installed SS brake lines on my C5. Within a few weeks I started getting Service Active Handling messages. I took it to the dealer several times ($90 diagnostic charge). They found historical codes for each of the wheel sensors. They wouldn't do anything about it unless they found an active code.

One Saturday, the Service Active Handling came on and I drove to the dealer without turning the car off. They agreed the code was active and replaced the left front wheel sensor. I never mentioned the SS lines and they didn't ask.

The Service Active Handling messages had never shown up before I installed the SS lines. The codes came from all the wheels at various times. I even got a fail from the replaced wheel sensor.

I can not say with certainty that the SS lines caused these codes but it sure was a coincidence.

Tech2 clearly showed it was the left front speed sensor. I disconnected it, fumbled with the lines a bit and reconnected. Started the car up and no errors on the DIC - prior to this, it would throw them immediately upon startup. I've seen the error show back up on two different occassions after having driven for a while. I suspect it's not the connector, but the wires that go into the back of the sensor. Has anyone tried splicing these? I hate to have to buy a new hub assembly.
