I just purchased my 2005 C6 yesterday with 10.5K miles and got her home today. There are only a few issues that I'm concerned about. The transmission is a bit notchy and makes a bit of a noise when letting off the clutch to get started in first gear. I have been told that this is normal before and that pushing in the clutch starting/shifting/downshifting is just throwout bearing noise. My headlights are a bit off I believe. (See picture below to see what it looks like.) This too may not be so big of a deal. Finally, there are a few body panels that don't match up PERFECTLY with the other side. For instance, there is 1/8 of an inch bigger gap on the right side of the hood compared to the left. Or 1/8 of an inch bigger gap on the left door where it meets the dog leg vs. the right door. I've heard this was also common due to fiberglass being hard to remain perfectly shaped. The vehicle has never been in a wreck. Auto Check can confirm this. When vehicle was inspected, everything looked to be in good order. The vehicle has had only one owner in the past who provided new documentation of the vehicle. Please help me with my newb questions!
I believe the head lights are like that on purpose....if I remember correctly. I'm sure someone will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong. As far as the body pannels..I have the samething. One gap was a little too big. I got it aligned under warrenty. Don't let the little things stop you from enjoying a great car.
Haha, great! So I'm sure these issues are all normal for Corvettes? The headlight thing makes sense because we drive on the right side of the road. So the right headlight can shine a bit higher than the left because they are high intensity?
There is one other issue I've noticed with my car. Is there a protective clear coat on the headlights or something? The right light looks perfect, but the left looks like the coat is pealing off from the top. I'll take a pic of this later, but is this anything anyone has heard of?
Headlights are normal and you can have the panels re-aligned.
Some people have put clear protective layers of plastic on their headlights and foglights. General Forum response to this is not good, sometimes causing lens cracking. Peel them off if this is what you have. I would ask the previous owner if he did this "mod".
Driving the car usually makes you forget all about this stuff, though. Enjoy.
