Goodyear Supercar question
Has anybody stayed with the GY Supercars when replacing their tires, and do you have any regrets in doing so?
I'm leaning towards staying with them and would like some opinions.
Thanks,
Tom
Does anybody have a picure or two of the Firestones mounted on the factory 05 rims?
Thanks,
Tom

Good luck with your decision. Aaron

My car dyno'd the last time at 428 rwhp and the Wide Ovals seem to have much better grip than the GY SC on the street and are very quiet. I am very pleased with them and the fact they cost a lot less than the GY is just a plus.

I have to do more homework to find a place that knows how to properly mount RF and keep the price so I don't have to take out a home equity loan to get them mounted & balenced...
Goodyear (OEM) $1488 (for all 4tires)
Michelins $1626
Firetones $984
Big difference $ wise. Makes me lean towards the Firestones, but I can't help but wonder whey they cost so much less. Tire Rack shows that they are made in Japan, maybe that has something to do with it?

RFT Tire Damage and Repair
No tire, regardless of its design or quality is indestructible.
RFT tires can be ultimately rendered unusable due to a
puncture or other road hazard as well as from improper
run-flat or low tire pressure operation. Some punctures
may be repaired under certain restrictions and prescribed
procedures.
When driven at or with low pressure, factors affecting
reparability include vehicle speed, load, and maneuvering;
the amount of inflation pressure loss; and ambient temperature.
In any situation, the extent and location of direct
damage from a puncturing object or other road hazard are
also critical factors.
RFT tires are not repairable in any of the following situations:
• If the tire was operated with inflation pressure less than
15 psi (100 kPa).
• Abrasion or other damage is present on the exterior tread,
sidewall or bead areas.
• Abrasion, wrinkling, or separation is present on the tire
interior.
• Any condition or damage is present that disqualifies
repair of a conventional tire.
Run-Flat Certified Retailers will fully inspect your tire,
inside and out, to determine if the tire can be repaired. Tire
damage is not always visible from the outside and the tire
must be removed from the wheel for a complete inspection.
For more information, see “Tire Repairs” in this manual.
Note: Some vehicle manufacturers do not recommend
using repaired tires. Consult your vehicle owner’s manual
or contact the vehicle manufacturer before operating a
repaired tire on your vehicle.

I have a theory that Goodyear makes zero or loss on new car tires especially the Corvette. I think Goodyear would give GM the Corvette tires for free just to have them on the car to promote the brand. So they have to increase the prices for the replacement tires to make up for the loss.
Like I said earlier, I like the Wide Ovals much better than the GY and the fact they cost less is just a plus. Go read the Tire Rack reviews and almost everyone rated the Wide Ovals higher that GY. I only got 14,000 miles out of the GY SC tires which in my mind is ridiculous considering I don't track my car or drive it hard.
Does anyone have a legitimate complaint against the Wide Ovals? I understand the Michelins may have slightly performance but at the time I bought the Wide Ovals, they did not offer the run-flat type.

My car came with the Goodyear Supercars and I even tried a set of F1 GS-2 Goodyears. Both rode like a truck and were very noisy on concrete freeways and the short mileage of the Supercar is unaceptable.
Then I tried the Michelin PS2 non runflat. Wow, what a tire! They handle better, much better traction, and they ride like a dream. They are even quiet on the freeway.
These tires completely transformed a Z51 into a softer ride than a base suspension car.
If you are skeptical (I was), buy a used pair on eBay and try them out.
