Default Front Brakes Squeeling?

As some of you may know I just bought an 05 Z51 from a forum member on here. Probably one of the highest mileage ones around. Anyways I had been driving it the past few days and my front driver side seems to be making this horrific squeel like it needs new pads. Well today I took it to get it inspected and it passed with flying colors. I even told the guy to check that side specifically. He said they have atleast 1/4 inch on them......he said he heard the noise aswell and has no clue what could be causing it. Do you guys? Can I put some of that squeel stuff on the back of the pads?

Aggressive racing pads maybe or street HPDE pads?? Take the car out get the brake hot and see if the noise goes away. Race pads will stop squeaking once hot

If they are factory Z51 pads they will squeel even when hot from what I've seen on my car and it's only got 3100 miles on it. I am switching to AC/Delco ceramic pads over the Labor Day weekend. Tired of the noise and the black dust.

Default Front Brakes

I have an 05 Z51 with original pads. No squeal. I've had the problem on other vehicles though. First, try flushing the pad to rotor area with garden hose. Sometimes dirt/gravel will create a squeal. If that doesn't fix remove the pads and apply the adhesive, wait ten minutes and reinstall. If you car is high mileage you may be running replacement pads in which case I'd try VRed's suggestion.

Stock or OEM pads will do squeal. Change to aftermarket.

My wifes car is an 06 Z51 with factory pads.....they squeal. It is the nature of the beast with the performance pads. My car is an 05 that has been upgraded to a Z51, but I used the stock, base suspension brake pads.....no squeal. I can tell a difference between the two, hers stops better, but it is minimal and miles better than the base brakes.

05 vettes are infamous for their stock noisy pads.

Easy fix, Hawk HPS pads, no squeak, won't chew up your rotors.

If you want to go better, buy drilled/slotted rotors from Gene.
I will not get into drill/slotted debate so don't start.

At any rate, as long as you have the wheels off, PAINT THOSE CALIPERS!

If you plan to leave the calipers on then use a "brush on" kit. I left my calipers on with a "spray" kit and it was a nightmare.

Replace with SLOTED ONLY, forget the drilled slotted. DBA rotors. 3 Piece.
