Just bought a 2006 Z06 with 6000 miles on it. I was driving it home when the oil pressure dropped to the red zone. I stopped and checked the oil, dipstick was dry. I know these have a dry sump system in them and not a traditional oil pan so at first I was confused. I called the local GM dealer and he said try adding oil. I added more oil then started it, oil pressure never came up, could hear the rockers ticking. 6 litres added (GM told me to add oil) in total until the car was coughing white smoke, obviously burning oil so I shut the car off immediatly. Oil still not registering on dipstick. Got the car towed to GM and they will look at it tomorrow. I am thinking there is a oil pump somewhere that quit circulating the oil but I have no idea. Anyone else have this problem or an idea of what is going on?!?! One more point to add, there was no oil leaking onto the ground.

If you were hearing the valvetrain ticking louder then normal then it sounds like something with the oil tank or pump may have failed. If there are no signs of oil leak on the outside of the engine then the crankcase must have all the oil if the tank dip stick shows nothing.
Was the oil changed recently? Did the dealer change it or someplace else? Let us know what you find out..
Post this up in the Z06 section. Sounds like the scavenge pump quit. I hope the car is bone stock. Did you add the oil to the dry sump tank? Unlike traditional motors you do not use the capped port on the valve cover to add oil.

The car is bone stock. The oil was changed 3 weeks ago and was checked yesterday morning at gm before this happened. Yes I added oil to the correct resavoire and no through a valve cover.
