It was laying on the floor under the steering wheel. It is about 1.5 inches in diameter and has 3 coils and then it is broken. I have a pic I can email if you need to see it. Does anyone have any idea what it is for? Thanks in advance.
Clutch pedal has a spring to help with tension. Some remove it.

Yep definitley the clutch return spring. Probably didnt even notice it was gone before you found it lying on the floor. Some replace em some dont. Mines been broke for over a year now and have replacement but have not taken the time to replace it. I havnt noticed any difference one way or the other, (some say they like the feel of the clutch without the spring) but some will say you need it if you track the car or drag it as it aids in the return of the clutch back to the original position to aid in the hydralics. There are several threads on this if you do a search and will list all the pros and cons.
The C6 clutch return assist spring was designed with a precise torsion for a specific purpose. IMO leaving the spring out or using an improper spring (i.e. the C5 spring) is not ideal and might cause premature clutch wear.
