Noticed this tonight, just cruising in 2nd or 3rd at 15-20mph, there is like a fast clicking noise that sounds like its coming from the engine. I've known some engine injectors to be loud, but never heard them while driving.
Does it get progressively faster as revs come up? If so, it can be your valvetrain. If it only gets progressively faster when your picking up speed then it's probably soemthing not associated with the motor.
Not going to be able to drive it again until tomorrow. But I had the oil changed in it, and I checked oil level and thought it was low. But had Chevy mechanic check it again and he said it's a-ok.
The sewing machine sound is normal for the LSx based engines. For the LS3, a padded "upper" was added to the manifold intake. I suspect this was to help cut down on the noise! :-)
