Well my goodyear's are done after 18,000 miles and I'm looking around for new tires. After doing lot's of searching I've found that the PS2's are a great choice. Many people complain about their price yet they are cheaper in factory sizes then the runflats.
I was just wondering how long these tires last. I plan on getting factory sized replacements because upgrading in size will be very expensive. For those of you that have them how do you like them? would you get them again? My car is a daily driver and I like going around the twistys fast yet I want them to hook well on the street and at the track
Right now I only have a Honker intake and a Corsa Sport exhaust. I plan on doing Longtubes and a cam down the road. I should be around 420-430 rwhp. Will these tires hook with that kind of power? Give me your input on this. Thanks

They're good tires. How aggressively you drive will determine if they hook up. I actually ran the PS2s on the track in Hawaii (Oahu) and they held up fairly well.
I run R-compound tires on two of my three current vehicles. One is a 4X4 Toyota Tundra, so obviously it's the "misfit" of my vehicles tire wise.

I drove mine for 22,000 miles; the rears were about 50% done and the fronts maybe 40% worn.
They are, hands down, the best street tire out there. They don't put them on the McLaren SLR, the ZR-1, the Porsche GT, and other supercars for nothing. Sure, they cost a lot, but you do get what you pay for.
Mine hooked 1st gear when new; that was at 395WHP. They didn't do so great with 596WHP though... There is definitely a limit to how much you can hook with street tires... I'd guess it happens in the mid 400whp range.

Sorry for the thread hijack, but what tire do you run now?
I am in the same position as the OP. I want a decent tire that will hook and give me good traction/handling for the street. I wanted to stay away from a DR because I've had the MTs, Nitto's and the BFG's. In the rain they are useless and in corners they are okay but the car feels heavy on a drag radial.
I want something that'll hold 500whp or so in decent weather and was looking at the PS2's as well.

Were the 22,000 miles you put on the PS2's under hard driving? I take my car to the drag strip once a year. I've heard of people going only 8,000-10,000 miles on the PS2's.
PS2s are good tires with reputation to back them up. I personally have had excellent results with Bridgestone RE 11s (non run flats). Have ~ 6 k miles with agressive alignment settings, 6 track days and 4 autocrosses. tires are very evenly worn with ~ 50% or more tread left. Ride is comfortable and quiet, wet traction is =/better than GYs. I was able to mount 265/35 & 305/30 combo on stock rims with no issues. Tires were under $1300 shipped from Tirerack (stock sizes probably alittle less). Only mentioning this to offer another option to PS2s.

Ps2's are great! I'm still on my first set and I bought 2 sets.
i hv the PS2's (non run flat) in OE sizes and i love them. i will definitely buy another set when these are gone. however i may step up the size a little on the next set mainly for looks. my car is a daily driver and it looks like i will probably get a year (approx 20k miles) out of these tires.
i am making 472 to the wheels and they do not hold up to that level of power too well in 1st or 2nd. you have to "roll" on to the throttle in the first 2 gears but they are great tires.
i also had a lot of balance problems with other brands but these are balanced extremely well and no issues with them.
they are also fantastic in the rain which was important to me. i think you would be very pleased with these tires.

How did they do when you had 3.90s and bolt-ons? Did they at least hold second gear?

well as you know the cam mainly provides hp and more on the top end (less torque on the bottom end) so even before the cam traction was a bit of a problem. not like now but still a little problem. they are truly "summer" tires so on a hot day i got decent traction from them before the cam. However on a cool day or evening,, you really have to watch it and can not stomp on the throttle. (even without the cam)
now if i am in second doing 40 mph at around 3500 rpm and punch it, they will let go even on a very hot day.

Now I am running Nitto 555R2s, sized 305/35R18. They are a 100-Threadwear Road Racing tire, and can hook 1st gear when fully warm
Up front I used to run Toyo Proxes R888 sized 265/35R18. I also ran them on the back in the same size as the Nittos, but switched because the Nittos are cheaper and made of the same rubber compound. Right now I've got Toyo Proxes R1R up front; its a 140-threadwear compound with more thread depth, because my fronts were just going too quick.

I took them to the drag strip once, autocrossed 3-4 times, and generally drive my car extremely hard. Part of those miles were a coast-to-coast cross country trip, and daily driving all winter long, so that obviously didn't wear them much

Well that's good to hear! last thing I want is to spend $1400 and have them worn after 8,000 miles.

tks, dal
I plan on doing Longtubes soon. It should make 380 to the wheels. I think I will hook well with that power.
I keep going back and forth between PS2 and the R888s. I know the R888s will have way more grip, but I'd not a fan of being caught in a heavy rain with them as they wear down.

I almost destroyed my car doing exactly that. I had bald R888s on the back and couldn't get them shipped to Chicago in time, so I tried driving back to NJ with them.
Right in PA it went from no rain, to a torrential downpour, like a light switch. I didn't even have time to think about the fact it might rain. The car hit that standing water and wiped out instantly; I fishtailed across 2 lanes of highway a few feet from a concrete barrier and ended up on the shoulder, about a foot and a half away from the guardrail, facing oncoming traffic.
So... Unless you NEED the traction, don't drive in the rain, and you can afford to replace them every 7000 miles when they hit the wearbars... Don't do it.
For what its worth I picked up a new set of R-Comps and don't plan on ditching them; with the R-Comps, a supercharged car is only dangerous to drive in standing water, when they are bald. Without them, it is dangerous to drive all the time.
I will also point out that the R888s actually get very good traction on a wet road. They just can't deal with standing water as they wear down.

I here that the PS2's are great in the rain. I drive my car everyday so it's important that the tires perform well in the rain.

On my Camaro, I would change out my Nitto DRs within 8k miles (still a small amount of groove showing) and sell them for track use.
I have new wheels coming (19x11 rear so 305s will fit nicely), so one thought was to run my stock wheels with RF from Nov - March when it is cold. That would cut down the mileage during months when they don't hook that well on the street even after a few miles makes them feel a little softer than driving on a rock. The PS2's I would probably leave on year round.
Power wise, figure around 410 RWHP (street tuned so I don't have dyno #s) and I'll have 3.90s
